Registering A Car With No Papers?
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:06:36 PM »
I know this topic has been on this forum many times and I have actually done it myself in the past. But it has been awhile. Has anyone done this recently? What steps are necessary to getting the proper paper works?

Thanks.

You can write ICBC head office-North van with a letter including a bill of sale and a explanation of how you got the car, From there It help's to take a couple of picts of the car and send those too,

With a bill of sale ICBC will send you the last known address of the previous owner! Cost about 8 bucks if I remember.

From there they will either send you a disclaimer stating that the owner is dead or an envelope with last known residential address attached.

Now if the owner is dead you must head to a Notary to make sure this car was not willed to a living person
There is a fee involved. If all is clear its in your name!

Now if the envolope has the attachment you must mail it to the last know address with a letter telling that you now own the vechicle and are trying to restore it.  You will either get back a unopened letter (meaning the owner now no longer resides there) Or a letter saying GIVE ME MONEY!! Sometimes old owners want money for their signature. It happens alot, or you might get a nice one who just signs and sends it back!

If the owner does not live there you then send back to ICBC a letter saying you have tried to get a hold of the owner to no avail and as long as they have records that it has been insured previously they should give you the papers, Might throw on a saftey inspection(been doing that last little while).

Worst case you get a letter back stating that the vehicale is currently insured........which suck ass!!
