My Timing Story
« on: October 07, 2003, 07:09:51 PM »
So I thought I would  check my timing because my car was running like a dog ever since I ran at misson.
First of all there was water sitting in my sparkplug boot and my car would not idle.  This was from pressure washing my motor on the Tuesday night before the gene Berg cruise came through,  yes it has been awhile since I last had a chance to do something on my car,  and the rust on the plug was awful.

My car was running hotter than normal about 320 degrees. ( normal is 280)

So a few days ago I checked my timing

I had -4 degrees at idle and 14 degrees at full advance, and the condensor wire was against the oil sensor hmmmmm....   WHAT... I had adjusted it to 12 idle 30 max before the Great Canadian

I grab the 10mm wrench to loosen the dissy clamp and....... It's loose already,  as in turning by itself from vibration loose...OK ..... I drove with the GB cruise and  to airspeed 4 times since then . for a total of 250 miles max.

hahahahahaha now I'm thinking maybe I didn't even tighten the dissy down but I have never done that as I allways grab the dissy and make sure it is tight enough it could have happened though OR..................... SOMEONE   (Brian) adjusted my timing for me before the race...... bless his heart as there was a beer involved.   Hmmmmmmm........

Anyway the moral of the story is to allways check your timing, my motor runs much cooler now and is very responsive, and it idles all by itself.

Brian your address is sitting on my desk in front of me.  I will make it over 1 day.

I actually thought my car was running OK at our race, it did not idle there though and seemed to miss abit,  but I didn't really think anything was wrong as it seemed to pull just OK.  And of course I had never had the car out before so I didn't know if something was wrong or not with my time.  On Sunday going to the GC I definitly knew something was wrong as it was a pig to drive and would not go below 2000 without stalling.  This is how I drove it a few times till just abit ago.

The turbo is here, carbs should be here soon, and it drives me nuts as I have to walk by my stuff every day.

Hey kev,

Retard.....and I'm talking about the timing  :P

Just be happy there wasn't any damage in having a loose distributor. I remember a guy who worked for Mundies towing that had a mean V8 that he took to Mission from time to time. Well he did that same thing and he wasn't that fortunate and he really messed things up since his distributor decided to physically launch out of its bore. The misfire caused by that did some internal damage due to accidental detonation.

Friday's suppose to be  a sunny day.  HMMM Pickup a 1/2 second or so.

loose dizzy's... yeah, not so good. even in my measly 1600 single-port, lanny was dodging flames coming out of my lil' pea-shooters.
Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.
