Best way to get a custom Sewfine interior up here?
« on: May 26, 2014, 08:52:17 AM »
I am planning out the next few stages in my early bay westy build and am thinking about the wait/delivery time for one of these interiors.

I've done lots of research between TMI and Sewfine and it looks like Sewfine is considered better.  experienced opinions?

Next is how to get it delivered up here without paying an arm and a leg in brokerage/shipping costs.  It is probably going to be in the neighborhood of $2.5-3K, so i can't really go down to the states and wait for my customs allowance to be large enough.

i'm actually on the island, so...?  ideas?

Thanks!

If it's manufactured in the US you should only be required to pay the pst/gst on the item. Ship it to a mailbox in Blaine and then the next time you're on the mainland go pick it up.

Have them ship the package US Postal Service.  Comes to Canada Post.  No brokerage just GST/PST. Coming over here to a mail box service is going to cost close to $200 for the ferry so no real advantage to getting it shipped direct.

Or why not get it forwarded to a mail box service in Port Angeles and go over and get it.  Maybe with a friend you could carry it all back as a walk on so minimal cost on the Coho.  Maybe take along a hand cart for the bigger panels.

hmmm, no brokerage? I've always been hit when having a package sent from the states by Canada post. Some handling fee to do with customs, as well as duty.

I have had car parts of all shapes and sizes shipped USPS and never paid any duty or brokerage.  On small packages Canada Post does not even consistently charge gst/pst. Probably over 50 in the last 5 yrs.

Paul I ship clipper cargo all the time! Dirt cheap to ship inside the usa all you do is have them ship to the clipper in downtown seattle and it gets brought over on the next sailing. Id say a package of that weight would cost you about $30 to get brough over and then you take the paperwork up to customs,  you are your own broker so zero fees there, juwt pay tax on it and bam you're done!

Probably used them a dozen times over the years...tires, seats, full quarter panels etc (even better deal if a private sale and you get a reciept for the super low price you paid....less tax wink wink nudge nudge)

Used a mix of both TMI and Sewfine on my dad's convertible. Brian (red snapper) prefers sewfine. I saw a noticeable difference in quality in favor of sewfine.
