I have to say that after getting the car back onto the road, I am still shocked that 7 year old gas will make a car run. I never did put in new gas until after driving down the freeway and around the subdivisions for about 30 minutes first. The car had 1/2 tank of gas in it. The car started and ran with 7 year old gas in the tank. I am speechless, cause I was taught to change it out after sitting like this, this time I thought what the heck, worse case is I pump it later after I try to start it to see if I could save some time.
So why are we all changing out old gas from a car that sits for 1 winter? ...I might have to change my opinion on old gas,... starting now. I know in a high compression, performance oriented engine we are fighting for the last bit of anti knock ability and good burn. But in a old 7:1 compression ( maybe less )engine that has had the gas sitting in open to free air( I didn't have the gas lid on, it was borrowed for the gaunch launcher), you would think the light vapours would have flashed off and left a very high flash point liquid in the tank that wouldn't want to start very easily......something to ponder for anyone with some old gas. Still can't imagine ... why it still worked.
Anyway
My wife is very excited to drive her car again, it is nice to see it parked in the driveway. We are really enjoying it.
