Not sure which Air Cleaner to get for my new carb
« on: May 28, 2010, 09:58:53 PM »
Hi all, first time poster - long time lurker.

I've finally bought my dream car.  It's a 63 bug 1200cc and I am currently getting it tuned for the summer.

I bought this carburetor, it works great even though the choke is not clicking back after its warm - but I'll have to read about how to diagnose that later.

https://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC-113-129-029-A

I am just wondering right now, instead of cleaning my current air filter, I'll just buy a new from cip1, but I am not sure which one to get. I was wondering if someone here can maybe help me out!

Thanks in advance.

Also random question - does anyone know where I could find oil pan bolt studs? or even the size of them?

The best filter setup on the stock carb is the OEM oil-bath filter. I'm pretty sure I've got a complete 1200cc unit under the workbench if you need to buy one.

Swapping out the oil bath for a paper or cloth filter is a downgrade.

I no longer have a stock carb, I am using the one that is linked above.

I still have the stock air cleaner, but I thought buying a new one would be an upgrade and less of a hassle than cleaning this one.

Keep the stock cleaner. The oil-bath cleaner cleans the incoming air better then any dry or "performance" filter ever will.

Any performance feeling you get from another filter assembly is all in your head :)

Alright - thanks for the tip- I'll just clean the one I have and use that :D

By any chance do you know where I can pick up a grease cap with the hole in it for the speedo cable, cip1 doesn't seem to carry them  :(

i like how the cip descibes that your 40 year old carb has "ware" around the throttle body. like as in "ware and tare"?
the customer is always wrong
