36hp Okrasa?
« on: November 11, 2009, 07:37:28 AM »
Just curious about performance and reliability? Is there a noticable difference between a stock 36hp and a Okrasa equiped 36hp? Are they as reliable as the stock motors? Does the tranny need to be "beefed up"?

The prices on Okrasa stuff on the Samba is outrageous. Are they really that much better? Are the alternative ways of adding significant hp a stock 36hp?

Thanks for your input.

i think the prices that they cammand are just cause they are so rare, even more so a complete set up, as for power gains sure they can make ya more power totally not dvkk power but youll be able to pull away (slowly) from your other 36er pals i think the 36 kit gives ya 40 or 50 hp im not 100% sure on that but it helps, as for the tranny i dont see a need to have anything beefier the kit was made in the era of the 36 and perf parts for a split case are slim im sure.

check out wolfsberg west i saw the other day they sell a brand new okrasa kit complete, i dont know of how they are but for the most part ww dont sell crap

Cool! I did not realize that Wolfberg West were reproducing Okrasa parts. I was surprised by the kit components because I thought Okrasa also made high performance cranks, cams and distributor. But the kit does not include these. I didn't expect the horse power increase to be that significant, but I could probably a fly by most stock  36hp'ers and maybe even challenge some 40hp'ers.

Thanks.

The crank is easy.  You get a Porsche 912 crank and de-stroke it.  The Okrasa forging is the same as the Porsche forging.  Or, you just leave the longer stroke 912 crank with it's original stroke and make more hp than the shorter Okrasa crank will.
