Rules For Street Drags

Rule #6 is going to be trouble for us VWs:

6.   All vehicles must have a functional neutral safety switch.

Does anyone know if this is a new rule, or they've had it all along and not enforced it?

I'm not quite sure, but I think there exists a factory nosecone with a neutral switch.  These may become extremely valuable in the near future.

Are the rules online or so you have a copy, I'd like to see the rule for battery boxes before I make mine.

That is for automatic cars as far as i know.
AND, the inspection is so loose that it should be of no worry to anyone.

The main thing they look for is fuel lines, seat belts and helmet, oh yeah... Battery hold down strap.
If you go there frequently they just about wave you past ....sign here please now go race.

Just a strap or a vented box due to the battery being in the passenger compartment?

I remember something like that from years ago. I thought it was for automatics as well.
If the battery is in it's stock location ,just the stock hold down should be fine. I think it's when you move the battery that new rules apply. But if they can see the battery because you don't have a rear seat I'm sure they will not like that.

Like Hans said,If the rear seat is removed you need a cheapo battery box. Thats what i run and they pass it.

That's what I was assuming - no rear seat and a battery hanging out for the inspector to see. I was just going to make an aluminum box for it anyways but wasn't sure if others knew about the need - seeing as alot of first-timers will be hitting the track this year.

If you make a battery box it must be vented (with down tube) and have a hold down!
Once you make it, they will test it just as a NHRA spec box.
(bungy cords dont count) I work right across from the track at Lordco in the performace end so i get the heads up on most stuff.  If you need to know ask me! And Safety neutral switch's are only for cars that came with then from the factory(little honda's gotta have them) Were alright!Cheers!

Opps i forgot. Depending on who is testing the downfall to the beetle battery is you will have to vent into a unexposed compartment (outside thru hole) That's why Geoff is okay because the seat is considered a cover.....dont know why just is! Cheers

After I got in the tech line, I walked up to the front where the inspectors were checking out the cars.  In a matter of seconds I overheard the tech guy asking a std trans guy to verify his neutral safety switch.  CRAP!!!  I immediately went back to my car and switched lanes.  The guy who teched my car didn't ask.  I later asked a friend who normally does tech on street nights, and he says not for stick cars.  Then he went off to \"straighten out\" the newbie tech inspector.  So we are safe!
