8 volt battery?

so an old v8 guy was talking away the other day about a way to increase a six volt system is to get an 8volt battery said interstate has em, and in doing so will increase your six volt system, and have no issues with depenability... has anyone else heard about doing this kinda thing? is it legit? its the first time ive ever heard of doing this so figured i would run it past you fine vw people so see what anyone here thinks!

It's not as easy as just bolting in the bigger battery.  You have to figure out how you're gonna charge it with a charging system that only generates 6.7-6.8V.

I'm pretty sure you just open up the regulator and increase the gap on the points. It's a little trial and error till you get the voltage up to where it needs to be.  If you are gonna try and and need to find a battery, try the guys at Polar battery in Burnaby, they are on boundary near lougheed.

You had your answer in your first sentence.   An old time V8 guy. This was a very old time fix for mechanics ( and Farmers) in the 40s and 50s, who had trouble starting their equipment.  In very cold regions it was a legitimate fix, but for most it was a way to ignore the problem of slow cranking, ie,  starter not working properly, battery cables with too much resistance,  sub par battery,  poor connections, etc.  99% of the time, a 6 volt system in good working order, is all that is needed for stock vehicles. Thats been my experience, and I'm OLD.

You make like WAY too much sense. LOL

BTW, if you want an 8V battery, you could tap into the battery case and just use 4 cells.
