Paying for it for years to come?

What do you base that on? Some 6 o'clock news reporter trying to spin stories every which way? Or from Montreal in '76?

I swear when I see something on the news that I actually know something about, the report is always 95% BS. Im so sick of people complaining about everything.

The topic is obviously debatable, for every pro there is a con or vice versa. I say bring on major infrastruture projects and keep me in demand! If this many people want to live in the lower mainland, BC needs all available Federal money. The olympics puts the global spotlight on BC and the Feds buck up money that would normally be spent back east.

hmmm...interesting topic for sure.

3-4 years ago (cant remember exactly) when there was the bid to see who was going to host the olympics, they had a vote to see who was for and who was against. i've been opposed to the whole idea since day one and i voted \"no\" to the olympics.

imho, there are far better ways that the government could be spending the money. education, health care and affordable housing for low income families comes immediately to mind. helping those less fortunate. dealing with the downtown eastside. rebuilding stanley park. dealing with the #1 highway clog.

one good thing are the improvements to the sea to sky highway. allthough i found it amusing that all the residents were protesting up on that ridge they were planning on cutting the highway through. i would bet serious money (if i had it) that when those people heard the olympics were coming to vancouver they were totally gung-ho on the idea. their property value will increase, business owners in the area will become more profitable, their community would finally get the recognition it deserves....but when they need to cut the bluff...time to backpeddle. btw, i think it's a shame they cut the ridge, i just think there is a bit of irony in the whole situation.

another good thing is the employment opportunities that the olympics will create. seems like mike is making some money off of the olympics, and that's a good thing.

building top notch facilities for the atheletes is awesome. they need a place to practice their craft and hone their abilities. i just hope they get enough use out of those facilities to make it worth it. have you ever flown into calgary? the old ski jump & luge track looks awfully desolate.

i'm pretty sure we'll be way over budget tho. we're still 3 years away and there is still alot to do. accomodations, security, transportation....

i still think it's a big waste. i support the atheletes and their respective sports, i just hate all the other crap involved.

I remember when I went to Whistler 2 summers ago. We left Portland about 10pm and hauled ass up there. Right when you start to climb and the road get a little twisty there was construction:  angry: We waited for like 2 hours and had no idea why and we were tired and ended sleeping on the road side. I could not imagine how much impact that would have on Vancouver and surrounding areas.

On a second rant..

I was just at our American Olympic training facility in Colorado this year. It is the biggest screwball thing I have ever seen. What a waist of money. The gym is only open for like 6hrs a day, WTF is with that how are we going to train the americas best? It
