Did the plastic top that holds the ball down break?
Mine did, but the rivets still hold it down.
I put a piece of coat hanger around the plastic piece on the outside and twisted the ends till it sinched it back tight together. Works good....just like new...haha.

no the rivets were fine....till i drilled them out. Somebody had painted it green so im going to get it re chromed and the wire thrugh the middle broke so i need the wire part.

Maybe have a look at one of the repo Empi ones that Airspeed sells. Maybe you could use the internals from that to fix yours as they may be similar?

thats what i was thinking of trying but wanted to see if parts were available before i try to find a knockoff

The rubber boot and black plastic cover are available, Airspeed can get them. If you are doing a complete dissassembly, you must use a new rubber boot, they are less than $10.
For the wire, use an old VW heater cable, it is the same dia.
Be careful rechroming the trigger, it is pot metal and the polisher guy will very likely polish off the detail in the \"HURST\" lettering. On the bright side, (pun intended!), you will be able to polish off the flashing that runs down the middle of the trigger. My recommendation is to get them to handle the chroming of the steel shaft, while you should do the polishing of the trigger. Get them to strip the chrome, then start sanding.
When you have it all apart, you can tighten up the play in the white nylon bushing halves by sanding the mating faces on sandpaper on a piece of glass.

thanks for the suggestions

Or just scrap it and go buy a mint one for around $100 us... If your going to get into re chroming and all that...
