Anyone know the regulations for aircare? Do I have to have a vented gas cap and do I need a E brake to go through? Gonna try to get my buggy through tomorrow hopefully.
Thanx, G

If it's any of the early outside tab style of VW gascap they don't have an adapter for it so it goes through as a pass for the cap, don't really know if the E brake has to work but I snagged a pass once because the guy didn't feel like doing the \"extended monitoring test\" and did an overide pass calling it a bad brake car (brakes were fine). Almost hugged him. :D

One of the rules is that a parking brake is required and operational.
Since its a disco buggy they might let it slide if you pass them some happy tabaccy.
I've had a prick kick me out of the aircare center because it wouldn't lock up the rear tires. I had to explain to the guy that a car has a \"parking brake\" NOT an \"EMERGENCY\" brake found in big rigs. I told the guy he's a f!!ing idiot and the manager supported the uneducated fool so I told the manager off aswell.
Gav, you might be able to slide through AirScam AirCare without a parking brake.

None of the aircare flunkies have ever checked my park brake in any of my rear wheel drive cars, since that's the axle on the dyno. I was kicked out once in a Fox because it was unoperational, but apparantly they use the park brake when testing a FWD car.

What the hell does a parking brake have to do with emissions?
-
I suspect they are worried a car is somehow going to suddenly start madly rolling about the level floored testing facility causing countless injuries and property damage. Gotta keep WCB happy. Just like those stylin safety glasses they all wear, makes them look like they know what they are doing.

A friend of mine was a manager at aircare for 7 or so years and could spend a week telling stories about how various cars have launched thru the lane and out the door with people and without, as a rule I believe they chock the wheels now to prevent most of these problems. But as Matt says, its RWD and mine has never been checked, in my bus or any car for that matter.

I took my buggy too the Mple Ridge test station....Suprised the hell out of them,,Stick shift with out a clutch petal..Try too explain auto stick technology too them didn't work ended up with a curb test and a pass..Smart tech's
-
Now that you mention it, the last few times I took the bus through I just left it with the wheels in the dyno rollers and didn't set the brake, no one complained, they just put me into the holding cell and proceeded to see if a bus can do 60 kmh in 1st gear :o

You address the word \"tech\" to someone with some applicable knowledge in their field of work. This is something they are NOT. They are people pushing test probes in a tailpipe or Vin number readers or take your money out of your wallet.
According to what I've been told it is illegal for them to even comment on which component is the cause for failure of an emission test because Aircare can be held accountable for misdirection.
My sister inlaw just told me her 2002 van doesn't need aircare for 7 years!!!!!!!!!!! from the year of her vehicle. This means she's exempt upto 2009!!!!!!!! If you dont believe me call ICBC and ask yourself. This is odd isn't it. I've had cars fail within a year or 2 because of EGR or 02 sensor failurs. What is the point of having a Government supported MONEY TAKER if its not really preventing air pollution. Why does AirCare linger like a stinky pile of shit. Just end the program.

aircare people deffinatly arent the brightest, when i went there in an avalanche for work they could figure out how to pop the hood and after 10 minutes i finaly got out of the car and did it for them
i dont think the parking brake would be a problem, on a rwd car when are they going to use it anyways?
-
Sorry about \"Tech\"..That what the manager called the little toad that was doing the test....

\"TOAD\"
Now thats suitable.
-
Well how about the 10 mins one of the toads wasted on my car trying to find a catalitic converter... in the front! and then another 10 trying to test the gas cap, not the brightest.
-
Prior to about 5 years ago, they used to check your idle speed with an inductive pickup. The pickup was fully encased in a foam block, and they would toss it on top of the front hood of front engine cars. It could pick up the rpms from that close.
I caught the toad throwing the foam block on my front hood! I've also caught the guy looking under my running board with the mirror, trying to find the CAT. Not the sharpest chisel in the toolbox.
-
They always look under the middle of my vanagon for the cat
Then imagine the confusion when they finally realize the motor is in the back...and although it's an 86 ....it has no cat because is a european model
and all the serial #'s are in the wrong place. I just sit back and enjoy the show

Well, buggy made it through... no pass unfortunately :(
First question out of their mouth, does it have an ebrake! Second girl comes up and says what the hell is this thing... ha, ha. Then she says, does it have an ebrake - it's like they knew I was worried about that. But neither seem to care, they just threw a block under the tire and off we went. Didn't even look for the gas cap, and didn't even attepmt to look for a cat.
Pretty damn close in the numbers which is great... but who cares, she's now on the road legit!
-
They're like dogs, they can sense your fear.
So you didn't pass but your'e on the road, please splain?
-
fail, still gives you 3 months....
-
You only get to do that once, though...
-
I probably won't own it by then...
-
it will be mine!
