Title: Quick Shift Kit
Post by: blarneyman on July 19, 2006, 09:07:37 PM
I tried putting one of those quick shift kits on my daughters 73 standard bug tonight. I tried for over 2 hours to get that thing lined up and couldn't get 1st or reverse. As soon as I took it out I had all the gears. Anyone have this problem? Will it work? I put one in my 69 bug and everything worked first try.

I had the same problem... try putting the plate over to the very left. I ended up taking mine out and putting in an old performance shifter I got at a swap meet.

I just took it back out for now. I wanted to give it a try to make the shifting quicker for my daughter. I had to replace the shift rod bushing and coupler anyway. At least I know she can make it to dance class in Coquitlam tomorrow. ;)

The problem I find with those \"quick shift\" kits is yes, they make the shifter throw shorter, but they almost double the effort required to move the shifter, so your shifts don't really end up any quicker after all. Same your money and buy a good quality aftermarket shifter, or stick with the stock setup.
