How do you replace a loose pin in a beetle door hinge?
and where would you get one?
-
Good question?? I have two doors like that (need to fix)!! :P

Hey bugbuzz, do you have an orange Super?
You get hinge pins from Airspeed.
Some hinge pins will come out with a flat ended punch and hammer. Obviously, it is a lot easier to do with the door off the car. I highly recommend you first measure the distance between the 2 hinges before you start hammering and you measure along the way. You don't want to find out you hammered one of the hinges 5 mm out of alignment trying to get the pin out.
If your car has a good paint job, the upper one can be tricky. I first take a large shop rag and tape it to the door below the hinge. Then I have a 4\" wide foot long sheet of steel that I tape on top of the rag. Now if your hammer goes awry, it won't dent or scratch the paint.

Bruce no I've got a 60 rag it's in members vw's
good idea about protection for door as I do not want to mess with the paint.
I'm thinkin of just taking the door rite off and doin it that way really needs to be done before I reck the bottom of sill & door........... :P Luc

An air hammer with a long tapered bit will knock the pin out effortlessly. Be very careful with the manual hammer method, the hinge area can be bent quite easily.

Good idea Lanny I think thats what I'll do..........

And what about the problem causing the hinge to be loose?
What adjustments can be made to which hinges to realign the door.........assuming the body was straight which it ain't!
