Title: Plastic Cleaning
Post by: celticbob on January 08, 2004, 06:54:42 AM
What product does everyone use to clean/polish their plastic car parts like turn signal lenses and tail lights?

I use a British Product called Auto Glym. Specifically, their Super Resin Polish. I use it on my motorcycle helmet's clear visor and my riding goggles, and of course any painted surface. At work (Wilkinson's Automobilia) we use it on all manner of plastic and diecast scale models, as well as their acrylic display cases. When people sell us 40 year old Dinky toys with oxidized paint, this stuff makes them look like candy. Land Rover and Aston Martin use it at the factory, and the Royal Family apparently uses it as well.
We sell it in store and online. http://www.accountwizard.com/eautomobilia/...=item&value=R12 (http://www.accountwizard.com/eautomobilia/shop.asp?outsidelink=item&value=R12)

Like j_c_hamilton said, The auto glym works very well as do many other products made to polish plastic. If Wilkinson's stocks this then i would recomend ordering it from them, Keep the support in our circle of VW people.

Celticbob PM'd me and raises a good point, related to the CB spindle thread, that consumer's seem to need more information on. Here's the text:

celticbob, asking about shipping charges:
\"Is there only 1 shipping option?
The shipping charge on site is $6.95. Total works out to $25,36 for one bottle. Owww!!!
thanks dude.\"

my response:
\"That's actually cheap.
Go to Canada Post's Website at http://www.canadapost.ca./business/tools/r...in/rc_bus-e.asp (http://www.canadapost.ca./business/tools/rc/bus/bin/rc_bus-e.asp)

Packaged up, the polish weighs 490 grams and is going in a 23.00cm x 13.00cm x 13.00cm box from postal code V5T2X7 to postal code A2A1R7.
Canada Post's Cheapest Rate (Regular Parcel) is $8.90. We're sending it Expedited (reg. rate = $9.57) for $6.95, and of course we're not charging you for the box materials or or my time to package it. Next time you're in the post office, you'll see that a box that size goes for about $3.50 or so.
We send it to you for about half what it would cost if you were to send it to us.

You can contact me at the store at jason@eautomobilia.com or by phone at 1-800-699-1939.\"

I should point out that the business rates in the Canada Post link are actually lower than the consumer rate. If celticbob had actually sent me the package, it would have cost him $9.36 for regular parcel at the counter rate, plus a box.
Only occasionally do I have to explain this point to customers, but it is worth noting. Next time you want to complain to a retailer about shipping charges, you'd do well to find out how much it would cost if you were to send it to them. More often than not, you'll find the retailer is passing on their commercial discount to you.

#1  I just asked if there was different shipping options like some retailers offer like reg ground, expedited or next day air.
#2  I am not familiar with Canada Posts rates as most of the things I mail and order are CD's and DVD's and they fit in bubble mailers.
#3  I PM'd you instead of making another post as PM's are \"Private\" and I never meant it for ALL to read (No offence)
#4  I wasn't complaining, I was just asking a question.
#5  I did call your shop to order but got the machine and I left a message so it wasn't a big deal.
#6  Maybe I won't order it now. I'll look around for a place with better customer relations.

Oh yeah, it was great here while it lasted. I'm going back to CIP  (sorry G) and another board. Consider this my last time here.
I'm outta here.

Rob, I'm not making fun of you, and I'm not giving you a hard time. If we were speaking face-to-face you'd know that. Impersonality is one of the downsides of the written (as opposed to spoken) word.

1. We offer the best and cheapest shipping possible, so for simplicity's sake we just leave it at one shipping method.
2. I know you're not, and neither are most people. I just figured if I could give you the same information I had, you'd feel better about me shipping your purchase.
3. I publicized your PM because you asked an honest question, and I thought the answer would benefit others.
4. I didn't mean you specifically.
5. That's the beauty of online ordering, you don't have to call. I can't explain my co-workers' failure to answer the phone or check the messages.
6. I'm sorry you feel that way. Please let me know if you re-read all this and change your mind.

Online sales and shipping are part of my job at Wilkinson's Automobilia. As the shipper, I'm acting as an agent on your behalf. You tell me how you want it shipped and I'll do it. Mail, courier, camel train - hell, I'll personally drive it over to your house in Newfoundland. I'm paid by the hour - makes no nevermind to me.

I think you're just taking this all wrong, and I'm sorry.

It's not for me to comment on your shopping at Airspeed or participating in these forums, but I hope you'll reconsider.
