Any ideas what you would of done differently? Any tips... Mine goes off to the bodyshop tommorow and well so begins the long journey.

Double or Triple any budget you come up with - also do the same for completion time!

Watch American Hot Rod..mock up, mock up. Normally, most cars would have hundreds of hours in to them BEFORE going to the body shop. Also, the #1 rule, the paint job is only as good as the wheels and tires.

I pretty much assemble the WHOLE car then take it back apart for paint. Just what Lanny is saying.

I agree with what they said as well as think ahead as to what you may do later down the road. Now is the time to weld in any mid mounts,brackets, stc. as well as run extra wires for sterio or guages before you put the headliner and such back in. Makes things much easier later.

Just take your time....do as much as you can yourself...you'll appreciate it more in the end.

My car may not look good this year but its going to run well, concentrate on all your physical/mechanical issues first, body work and paint is a finishing touch and should be done last to prevent back tracking and repainting.
If your not doing any hipo mods then I guess your half done so just take it to maaco and be done with it.
Just my 2 cents.

Hmm...my first car..a '72 Super Beetle that I paid $400 for. It was more like a rusto than a resto though :unsure:
One thing I would've done different was removing the rear wiring harness before welding in new rear fender mounting panels. I melted the wiring harness into a nice sticky blob :wub:

I always thought it was only as good as the prep work. :D
I agree... take your time, prefit and double check. It really sucks having to grind off fresh paint just to modify something that didn't fit, or was forgotten.

I am being humbled by my 66
I am work in progress (WIP), and probably that will always be the case.I
know that I may not be able to do it all my self. That being said, it is my intend to know every inch of that project. What I do not know, I will have to learn and the members at ASF are a wealth of knowledge that I can tap into.
In the mean time 40 years old bolts are off between the body and pan. Holly $%@^&. We have steel supports for across between the doors and front to back on both sides.
