Title: Getting The Glass Out Of Ventwindow Frame
Post by: kirin on May 26, 2006, 12:29:06 PM
Hey guys,
Trying to get the glass out of the vent window frame so I can get it rechromed and put in a new seal and put the glass through the dish washer. Any advice on how to do that?

Hardwood stick and a hammer, lay the window on a towel or piece of rug, lean on it and tap tap tap the frame off it with the edge of the stick. work evenly and on both sides so you don't bend the frame.

Steel wool works very well for cleaning glass but NEVER use scotchbrite.

I wouldn't know the glass in mine keeps falling out. I would try the Hulks idea it would be the quickest :D

What is it that you are trying to do? Are you trying to get the glass out of the door?

I had a problem with mine, it would not come back up. Taken care off it.

I may be able to help.

Frames are out of the car. I will start doing a bit of tapping and see what happens with the sunbaked rubber and the glass. I know for sure one of the windows has been replaced(Shocking) will be nice to have some matching glass.

Kirin, there is quite a section on that in the Benley manual - one word of caution, though - once the glass is out it is a huge pain in the arse getting the glass onto the seal and fitted back into the vent frame, the old shops actually used a press jig to get it snugged in there.

Also see the articles at www.thebugshop.org as he explains many of these procedures (how to do and not to do ...)

Hey I realize this.
But I'm doing a complete resto and I think the results would be a bit underwhelming if I didn't at least fix the seals..
