Title: Heating Channel Replacement

I would like to know who is reputable at replacing heater channels (experience on type 1 1966)?

How long (hrs) it takes?

What it would cost me if I get the channels my self?

Would it be cheaper if I help?

I plan to keep this Bug and want it done right with the right parts.

Stefan Feeg @ Rudy Feeg Auto repairs. 604 590 4409. I dont know what his schedule is like as he has just moved to another shop so he might not be set up yet.

4 small 1/4\" holes back driver pan. Pasenger side heater channel is very rusty. So I assumed the driver's side heater channel should be replaced at the same time. I am tempted to do it with a good friend of mine. It basically depends on the cost to have someone do it and if it is too expensive I will have to take care of it.


I will therefore, need some sites where information may be available.

All right, Got  the channels and started to take things apart. Funny thing with bolts that have been there for 40 years and don't want to come out. Will post more pictures soon.

get some pb blaster or liquid wrench and soak those stuck bolts. then give them a nice tap with a hammer to \"shock\" them loose. then get some heat on them. then when they're hot get the socket and rachet on them and slowly loosen them off. carefull tho with the pb blaster/liquid wrench and heat. that stuff is flammable.

if they're hard coming off, turn them off a turn, then back on a half turn, then off a full turn, then back on a half turn. rinse & repeat.
