Title: Mac Or Microsoft
Post by: Bug Maniac on May 06, 2006, 11:51:20 AM
Currently have a HPpavillion mx 70 which is coming with us as we figure it's not worth much but the kids are going to need a pc at some stage for school work. We want  to get a laptop for around a $1000 we only need it for Burning cds , the odd bit of word processing and internet use and playing are music and dvd's on when we will be away. Thing is we know people through alex's brother in the states that work for HP and Apple who can get us good deals, but the question is which is better in your opinion, personally I dont think I have ever seen a Mackintosh pc it's mainly Microsoft so I have nothing to compare it with, over to you guys.

Thanks in advance.

i don't think it's nescesarily a case of mac switching to windows, more of a case of there being 1 operating system for both mac and windows, made by joint venture between the two companies, or maybe even a third party

Macs will run XP on them right now, thanks to the new dual core Intel processors (which, by the eay, run WAY faster on a mac than they ever have on a PC)
i still prefer the mac OS, it's so much simpler, faster and more stable than XP

If you are thinking about your kids & school - by far the majority of elementary schools in B.C. run Macs. Secondary are a mixture. Because of the huge cost involved it will be a while before it is common for schools to have the new systems that run both.

My personal choice is a Mac. - and I run both at home.

Apple made the smart move initially by flogging the apple/mac out to the schools, but in reality there are still more homes with PC's this of course is due to the almighty dollar and the availability of applications.

You need to go with whatever suits your needs. If you intend to do a lot of graphics intense applications you may want to look at a mac, but if your just going to surf the net, do some word processing and email, maybe play the odd game, save your money and buy a pc.
