Title: Engine Combo Idea, Thoughts?

Hey everyone, long time no post.  Got a schwak load of VW parts given to me recently (including an AS41 1600) and have made up my mind (finally) on what to build, tell me what you all think.  
1776
dual 40mm Kadrons
Engle 120
Scat lifters
chromoly pushrods
stock heads with a port and polish
single high rev springs
1 5/8\" header (still haven't decided on a muffler)
deep sump
doghouse cooler with matching 36 horse shroud
full flow oiling
There's still some minor details to work out, but I'm hoping close to 100 horse.  Does anyone think a counterweighted crank is necessary?  Any thoughts or suggestions?  I'm all ears.

Almost everything I have read and everyone I talked to have lead me to believe that it would reach 3500 rpms very quick and with a bit more push you will be doing 6000 rpm in a blink.

If you don't get a counterweighted crankshaft it will pound the heck out of your block.

price difference between a 1776 and a 1914 is minimal, why not go that way and definitely use a counterweighted crank.

Your collection of parts is a good start. But you have to decide what you want from this motor.
I would suggest you use a milder cam, if you use a stock crank. Maybe a 100 at the most.
Your Kadrons won't like a 120, rough idle. And not having a counterweighted crank, you won't be able to rev the motor up (for too long).
IIRC a 120 requires at least dual valve springs. Webers and Dellortos like a 120.

Both Chris and Cameron have good points.
For a few dollars more you could build a 1914cc, BUT you mentioned stock heads. Those heads will not work well with a 120 nor will the Kads like Cam stated.

If you keep it the 1776 the heads will work well if you use the Engle 100 as will the kads but I would highly recomend the C/W crank...money well spent!

Thanks for the tips guys.  Much appreciated.  A buddy of mine has got a 110 he is willing to part with for a song and a dance.  Still too much cam?  Anyone got a counterweighted crank they'd like to part with?  I got a lightened and 8 dowelled flywhell in the parts stash I got, it'll be put to good use.

sounds like a good combo. i put a 110 in my 1641 with kads, and stock heads. ran pretty good, so i don't think it would be a problem. i would go with a 1 1/2 merged exhaust, the 1 5/8 ones are usually good for 2L's or bigger. i do have my 1641 for sale which has a dms crank, 110 cam, new stock heads, kads, along with other goodies. e-mail me if interested.

What would the compression ratio on a 1776 be with stock heads?  A friend gave me Desktop Dyno and I'd like to try out my combination on it.
