Post by: vwshawn on March 13, 2006, 03:40:26 PM
Does anyone know the color code for the engine block paint for a 1965 Beetle, 1200cc 40HP Motor.
Please respond ASAP with advice.
Thanks,
Shawn

Original bare metal may have a slightly brownish golden tinge due to the chromic acid pickling process used to keep naked mag from disintigrating from the moisture in the air. Depends on the alloy used in the case. VW Canada rebuilds were painted gold, sorry don't know the code.

there is some controversy over whether or not it's a good thing to paint your acvw engine. some paints have a harder time dissipating heat than others. so if you're hell bent on painting your block, i'd look into that.

besides, the mag look is cool.

I have a mag acid dip at work makes the case turn slighly bronze, If the motor is not assembled i can dip it for you. (NOTE: must wash off otherwise eats at case it left on)

They were coated with Dow(cosmoline).
