I thought I would share a few progress shots of a new project in the stable... This buggy I bought to occupy my need to drive something until I finish my beetle... I always wanted one and came across this at Xmas while visiting my mom in Oregon. My goal is to move as fast as time permits: with my wife due with our first end of Mar, I know I have to have this mostly done before Jr. shows up.
Hope you enjoy... I will try to update as it goes:
Here is a shot of the first day from picking it up from Tom Hansen's place (who bt the way - talk about favors owed - Tom went out of his way to drive all the way to Portland from Seattle and trailer this back to his place). ..
My wife did not seem to share the same enthusiasm as I to throw on some beanies and winter coats and take her for a rip in the neighborhood.

Here is end of day 1:

Just a few holes here and there to fill. There must have been a dz cracks and 1000 holes drilled in the tub. Not to mention the lovely self flame job and 80's specle paint accents. I have never played with fibreglass before, but it is really easy stuff to work with:

After a day of sanding through 6 layers of paint and cracked gelcoat:

That brings me up to last weekend. My hat goes off to any body guy, as sanding that biatch flat was no easy chore and all I could think of was I can't believe some guys do this for a living... hats off to you!
More pics to come...

Next phase... ready for paint. Here I have to mention the enormous help and talents of Mr. Rustybus. I hooked up with Chris to help with the paint section of the build. He was really helpful in the prep phase, not to mention that with his expertise, we managed to paint this thing in 1 day. He really knows his stuff well. All I told him was an idea of what I wanted it to look like and he layed out the plan.
We hooked up one day at Lordco in Lang to pick out my supplies that I would need and to choose a color. The minute I bought it, I knew it would be an old school beach cruiser...
Here I am off to meet Chris at a buddies shop of his to spray the beast Sat:

Into the booth she goes:

Here is the first layer of primer/ sealer:

Then the magic ingredient to make it come to life in the sunshine. Plus, what old school buggy would be complete without this:
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyflake003.jpg&hash=0d62d6f9cbc835a239455472d959ccb9e5f62bf8)

After a couple coats of flake:
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress026.jpg&hash=322b5e046041951ac2331f7c3e941a9ba0bffa5c)
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress027.jpg&hash=e6adc4751f270b4a82f3e12d6774a84dfcc5aaa2)
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress025.jpg&hash=5b7ef9903355573af9dd2976194bb471bc2341e8)
Then Chris layed down a couple coats of clear base:
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress031.jpg&hash=f8c2372e577549271d52b7500a75790ac629844a)
Then after a nice bake, comes the color. Originally I wanted to go with a killer old school gold, like you would have seen on some 70's style ski boat. But something happened while in Lordco picking out paint and I ended up picking a whole different color - Candy red! Here is after 3 coats of red candy.
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress032.jpg&hash=53006b9cbdac36b234f0902a7de9e2bc7e85678c)
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress033.jpg&hash=453847a0cebb8d191eac6c496e5b8e4ed692e742)
A couple hours later, and 3 coats of candy red and 3 coats of clear, it was really fun to watch as you could really see the color start to shine:
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi25.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc98%2F52zwitter%2FBuggyProgress035.jpg&hash=037b1ee731f5ca715d1e5acbe2cb473cab91257f)
So that brings it up to today... Next is the chassis, a few holes to weld up and probably some Por15. Then the interior of the tub is going to get some new gravel guard, then the drive train...
More updates to come hopefully soon.
Chris, thanx soooo much for all the help, you did a kick ass job.
