Title: Project: Slammed 63
Post by: Stevie on February 03, 2006, 02:56:48 PM
well i have been saving all my money over the last couple months and as of the other night i have a 4 valve air-ride kit headed in my direction..
i'm not sure why i posted this i'm just really excited..

the lowwered beam and drop spindles just wasn't doing it for me,
but i need to get out and start extending my front shock mounts or it will only sit 3/4\" off the ground, and thats just still to high..

i will post some pics as soon as i can get things to work on my web site..

so far up to date i have replaced the frame head and the floor pans,
all in which will be powder coated upon finish of air ride install :D

Sounds like you and young James may have somewhat of a challenge happening here for the lowest 63....

Post by: Stevie on February 05, 2006, 12:32:17 AM
there is no compitition lowered on 17's and slammed on 20's...
mine is just going to cost me more money.
but i still have the option of adjustability and ride quality i'm going for the best of every world.. i have stepped up to the plate... which i will drag with my car lol.

oh i got one off and the other one i am doing tomorrow .. thanks for finding that post for me, i just thought my pan was on GLUE and it's not  just mine lol..

july is comming pretty quick, i hope it gets done in time.. or i will be MAD

dont have much to say on this topic other than, most \"lowest car of show\" contests are done only for \"non-adjustable cars\" so i would still have a chance to win! but i have put some thought into air-ride. but just isnt for me yet! i guess it is all about preference, and if all goes well, the 63 should be a little lower than my 68 is right now! here is to hoping.
good luck on the rest of your build, post up some pics soon.
james.

Well i'm still waiting on part of my air ride kit.
hopefully by the 2 month mark i will actually have All the parts...
a month and a half has gone by since he has had my money,
and he still hasn't sent a bunch of my parts,

but on the plus side i recieved my custom headlights yesterday, they are going to look very very cool.
but yeah thats about where i am at

Alright well it's been a little while since i updated.

i have been working pretty hard trying to get things done and prepped for blasting..

i got all my air ride parts after 2 months of waiting, i was very pissed off but it was definetly worth the wait.

in the first picture is displaying the floor pan and frame head replacement a lot of work went in there, and yes as i have already been asked, i did add closer welds on the pans..

the rest of the pics are self explanitory the airlines tank and compressor are all temporary placed for suspension mock up, will all be mounted in pre selected locations..

the last photo is the wheel i was going to use, after a lot of thought i have decided to change slightly to a different wheel, but it still has the same idea but looks more holey..

well enjoy the pics, Steve

Hmmmm looks like you may be the lowest A/C Beetle in Vancouver now :o
Title: Project: Slammed 63
Post by: Stevie on May 06, 2006, 02:16:04 PM
well i certainly hope that i am the lowest,
but with the 20's on there it will raise it 1/2\" all round unless i put 19 on the front, but thats too small, and i was going to attempt 22's on the rear but i can't afford the rims, and i get them at cost... oh well

it certainly has been fun, the next little bit should prove interesting.

well Another update...
this one not quite as happy
i recieved my pan the other day, it looks amazing, thanks a ton Russ
he currently has my beam and soon some other small bits and pieces..

well now to the bad news....

i recieved my body back from sandblasting.. and people are right, it uncovers problems you never knew about,,, well i found that there is a lot more rust than i had expected and my body man is not going to be able to finish in time for GCVWS, and with the time needed also the price rises, and now i'm gonna be quite short for cash to finish.  it's a shame but thats life for ya.
I will still be striving onward with the project, and hoping for next show season..

well thats all i have to say for now good luck to everyone else racing to the very end

Steve

alright long time since an update So here's where i am at,
The body shop i had the car at for 6 months decided he didn't want to Do the car, and also decided he didn't want to tell me, so i picked up the car last week brought it too a friends house and painted it flat black,

now i am at the long haule of just putting it back together for the year so i can drive it at least once..

i got the body fitted and all the brakes just about done, next on the list is running My air lines mounting my seats and some basic electric stuff..

and in about 2 weeks I'm doing a test fit for the Big Ole 20\" wheels,
and $2600 later i have my wheels :D  So here are some pics over the last week

Just shoot it with primer for the show!!Is that the airkweld kit?If so is it good ? I want to bag my 75 but not sure if I should buy a kit or build my own!
Title: Project: Slammed 63
Post by: Stevie on May 29, 2007, 11:36:08 PM
yes it is the airkewld kit, an awesome set up,
but an absolute pain in the ass try to get all the parts, and correct ones,
took almost 2 months after they had the money paid in full for me to get
everything,

but the set-up is definetly do-able to build yourself it's pretty straight forward, and the manual 4 valve Air management kit is slow comming down, so i'm actually getting 4 electric dump valves to drop her nice and quick.

most of everything you need can be bought from KMS Tools.

but let me know if or when you start and i can give some advice..

steve

Sweet,
Do you have to take torsion bars out of the beam? If so what do you put in there place?
Title: Project: Slammed 63
Post by: Stevie on June 09, 2007, 02:03:19 AM
yes torsion bars have to come out,

they are basicly replaced with a piece of internally threaded round stock pipe, radial bearings some bolts and washers... pretty simple if you can find the right stuff..
