Title: Weight Savings With Fiberglass Doors?
Post by: Boost_Retard on January 23, 2006, 10:30:17 PM
Seeing as im not going to be running any glass in my baja bug, i have been thinking about picking up a set of fiberglass doors, something you would find on a drag car.. i will have full cage protection from side impacts so flimzy light weight glass doors would do just fine.

anyone run these glass doors? have any idea how much they weigh?

who sells the thinnest glass doors? i dont need some heavy gauge stuff, they are just for looks

it sounds like a good idea, just so long as they fit.

what do ya think?

10.5 lbs $420US, truck shipping $100 in USA! This is a real nice product with inner and outer skins but unfortunatley early windows only. Maybe someone knows how much a fully loaded stock door weighs and how much a gutted one is? wayne

I think I have seen Token fiberglass have a set of vw door in the rafters, Try asking for ken he will know what year for sure and how much! Plus he puts alot of time into the track, doing the video nights for the kids and junior drag stuff! Great guy.

Thanks for the link Wayne!
10.5Lbs per door aint bad at all! WAY less than a loaded stocker.
i will slap one of my loaded stock 69 doors on the scale and find out exactly how much it weighs in at..i forgot i have a set stashed at my parents  house...and thats where the comercial scale is
And no it aint for weighin up weed

i will have a look into this token fiberglass place....is it local?

i wonder what early windows would look like on a 69..

when you mount these glass doors...do you use stock style hinges?

im just thinkin of whats needed to make these things mount, and open and close...

i dont want to have roll up windows..im sure that would not work out anyhow..but i would like to make or buy some kind of sliding window..even if it only slides open half way from left 2 right..

im not gonna have back glass or 1/4 glass...but having some kinda window beside me might pay off in the mud.

That's still pretty lightweight with everything in. Those are fine lookin doors too, with the inside as well as an outer skin. I'll go weigh a stock one. '66 door only 25lbs, fully loaded 45 lbs, one piece window 7 lbs. Wayne

Token fiberglass
is a sponsor of the SuperShifter series as well.

Dave Cosgrave had an extra set of doors last time I was out his way, he might be able to hook you up.
