Title: New Find!
Post by: Trevor P on January 13, 2006, 09:28:27 PM
Well I thought I would post a new VW  find that happened to come my way earlier this week. Seems as though I have found something that is quite possibly more rare than my 53 Barndoor SC.  I've seen pics, so I know it's real, but not 100% sure how clean it is underneath yet.  I'm going out tomorrow to look at it, and will report back later in the day with  details and pics for those that may be interetsed. Don't ya hate when people leave you hanging like this.

Well I just got back. It's a 59 Westfalia sales flap bus. Pretty rare from what little info I can find on them. I have been told that there are only three low roof sales flaps known of, and this would make 4 and also the oldest. Picking it up sometime in the next couple weeks, so I will have more time to inspect it. Should be pretty trick unit for taking to swap meets I'm thinking.
Pics to follow....

Anybody interested in posting these on here for me. I can email them, but the first set are super large cause his camera wasn't setup properly.

It's running, but needs the usual brake suspension attention. Some rot in the typical rocker areas, but overall very doable. Defineatly more rat look than anything. It was originally delivered in primer, but someone has done some poor paint work over the years. Last reg. in 1981!
I think it would look hot dumped on some Erco's with a flat black paint job and some old school signage on the sides. Perfect for those swap meet trips. :mullet:

For those that were waiting patiently, here is one of the pics I put on The Samba. There are more there to go with this one. I have some good shots of the outside that he sent me, but they are way too large to post. Unfourtunatly I didn't take any real good ones of the entire outside. When I get it home, I will have some better pics to look at.

There aren't a lot driving around anymore, but there have been quite a few in this province. I lost count of how many 21, 23 and 15 window buses where found around here. This was back in the 80's before my VW days. Unfourtunatly most of those have left the province/country by now. Actually my friend that owns the shop here has a 56 ambulance complete with strecthers...now thats F'n cool! B)
These things are out there, but they are in the middle of nowhere. Most people don't want to drive out of the city to find anything. I love the thrill of the hunt, and enjoy a nice scenic drive in the country to boot (and before anyone makes a wise crack...yes there is lots of beautiful scenery here to see  :P )
