Man is this a mess. My dad owns G3 Imac and did an upgrade on his operating system to OS X 2.8 in 2003. Once the updates were finished, he ran into the following problems
Double click to open a file and a prompt comes up stating that there is no Blue tooth hardware installed.
Start up Internet Explorer 5 and it switches back to classic environment OS 9
Mac Mail will not open in the dock or anywhere else. You click on the icon and a question mark appears on top of it.
I have tried the first aid disk permission utility but no help.......anyone??? Would really apprecaite any info you could give me.
Thanks

Obviously never tried Mac James? ;) I had OSX installed on my G4 last year by a pro. Too new a version for the older G3?

I would agree Lanny, and in that case I to would say put it out of its misery and upgrade to a newer iMAC, there are some good deals to be had with the clearout of the old models...

You probably mean OS 10.3 (Panther).... all the updates are pretty easy to install, thats of course if you know how to read and install CDs...
Its not the update thats the problem, but probably that the hard drive needs a clean with Norton & Disk Warrior, then the update install...

Man is this a mess. My dad owns G3 Imac and did an upgrade on his operating system to OS X 2.8 in 2003. Once the updates were finished, he ran into the following problems
1. Double click to open a file and a prompt comes up stating that there is no Blue tooth hardware installed.
2.Start up Internet Explorer 5 and it switches back to classic environment OS 9
3. Mac Mail will not open in the dock or anywhere else. You click on the icon and a question mark appears on top of it.

Okay lets fix these...
2. The I.E. icon that is probably on your dock is for OS 9. What you need to do is use another browser in OS X, like netscapre or safari an go to this site and download I.E. for OS X http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.asp...lgnosysreq=True (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/DOWNLOAD/IE/ie5_osx.xml&secid=30&ssid=10&flgnosysreq=True)
After it has been downloaded to your desktop and installed, go to the dock again]grab the old I.E. icon and pull it away from the dock]swish in a puff of smoke it is gone ( thats just the alias, the version is still on the hard drive)
Next go to the I.E. version you just downloaded, take it off the desktop ( it may already be there from the download) and place it in the 'Applications' folder in your hard drive (you should see an 'A'on the file folder)
Get to the main Icon Internet Explorer]click on it once and drag it over to your dock and place it wherever you want ( this move automatically makes it an alias)
Click on the I.E. on your dock and it should boot from OSX.
3. If a question mark comes up, it means the alias cannot find the original software. If it has been moved.
You have to find the 'MAIL' program( in the 'A' folder on the hard drive where I.E. is and any other OS X program) and click on it once and drag the icon to the dock.
Now restart your computer....
You have a pm.... for No. 1

Thanks En. I just got home so I will pass this on to my mom. She seems more patient with this kind of thing.
