Title: Schimmwagen Restioration
Post by: shortseurocustom on November 26, 2005, 09:11:21 AM
In for body and paint- almost a full restoration. The owner will be doing the little parts, but I still expect to have my hands full for several months. It's a running, driving '44... Owned by a serious collector, and this isn't his first Schwimm!! I'm trying to convince him to get this out for the next season's VW bigger local VW shows!

I know this may not be politically correct but,  does anyone make fiberglass reproductions of these?

OUCH! Thanks, uh- All in fun I suppose. My guess is there is plenty of work to go around! I try and maintain a local reputation. In time the business will expand past normal boundaries- but I can only do so much. I have to be selective in what I take on anymore cuz I only have two hands, and really- I don't have emloyees!

This Schwimmer is a Bellingham car! Even crummy Schwimms are a bit pricey, but parts aren't as hard to find as I thought... I gather this to be worth about $60k or so once finished, but with the way the early VW market is going, it's hard to say what the next decade will bring. I fear that once WW2 is all-but-a-forgotten time period, the value may stagnate or even drop a bit. Only my guess, I hope to be very wrong. I even dabated doing this cuz of the Nazi affiliation, but I talked about it with several important family members and decided to go for it.

B) Kubels , yes. But no Shwimmers . Apparently lots of requests though. Thats why I wondered if they are being made somewhere.(btw Calvin's a good guy, cut him a break or two ;) )
