Title: Prep Question
Post by: Forum Master on July 04, 2003, 02:08:28 PM
I've bought a 67' sunroof bug and was wondering if there was any other way to prep under the rear window louvers for painting, without cutting out that vent piece totally?

This one requires alot of patience. The best results we've had are by simply using a compressed air blower, cleaning as thuroughly as possible. Next remove as much loose material (rust or old paint) with a flat screwdriver, reaching between the vents. If you're lucky, the car won't have much paint in this area if it's been re-painted in the past. Aterwards a 3M scotch-brite pad can be used to prep the area, manouvering with a screwdriver or similar tool. A wipe with a shop towel soaked in wax & grease remover will leave a decently prepped surface. Also warn eveyone around not to annoy you. Tell them you have a sharp screwdriver in you hand... :o
