Title: Tranny Gearing

hello all canucks!!  long time no post although i am mostly lurking of late...I have a 68 bug tranny in my bus and it just wasnt cuttin the mustard on the I-5er!  so i bought a 67 type3 tranny.  Anyone happen to know the 4th gear diff?  is the t3 tranny taller?  thanks all..l8r!

They will both be 4.12 R&P, .89 4th gear.

You could instal a 3;88 ring & pinion and stay with the .89 4th OR change 4th to a .82 for better I-5 speeds. I had a 3;88 with a .82 in the red car and it was great for highway speeds but you need a good size motor to push a heavy bus with that combo.

I think a 3.88/.89 or 4.12/.82 in a Bus would be a big mistake.  Any engine in a bus has to make more hp than if it were in a Bug, so it will always run hotter.  A bug can get away with the taller gearing, but not a bus.
