Title: Driving Schools...
Post by: kirin on October 16, 2005, 04:42:48 PM
Hey guys,
Just got off a all time automobile high. Took a course by driving unlimited and it by far will not be my last one.  Never had such fun driving 8 miles around a landing strip ever. Made my car maneuver around doing stuff I and pushing it so far I couldn't believe it. The skid pad was a riot. Hopefully I can get some pics up.....
Next step up driving school at mission.
Also for taking the course depending who your insurance provider is you can get a discount....
Ciao!

Took the mission performance driver training years ago in my old golf. You learn so much about the physics of traction, and art/science of cornering when driving at high speeds. Reccomend it to anyone. :)

But yeah it was tons of fun and made it incredibly dirty. The car that is.

There not shitty shocks. And that was pushing the car at 7/10ths of the limit and actually trying hard to make it slide. For an old girl she did incredibly well and I am now one of the machine.
Don't knock it till you try it. And at anyrate I'm sure she can out handle your F150.

Oh well I think you need to stiffen up the back end of your hulk so you don't bounce the sump off the ground and pop air with the front tires..

Driving in a striaght line and taking a corner is too different things.
Take the hulk to a skidpad and prove it. And going fast in a striaght line can only be fun I don't know once or twice? Or bombing down a Chicane is more so?
My opinion. Going fast in a corner is a lot more fun then just a striaght blast that lasts for 10 seconds.

There, now we don't need that discussion anymore. You can all thank me later.

Big green guy and I should settle it Ninja style on top of the Harbor Center?

Or final striaght VS. Curves deathmatch steel cage style???

I have a twisted mind..... putting off midterms.

Shane unfortunatly(Well maybe for me to walk in with complete ignorance) I don't know your driving history. Maybe theres a whole section you might reveal one day.

Next Autocross event lets both participate. WE can enter and it would put the aircooled guys out there and it would be fun. It'd be fair. I will list a time and a place and lets make this happen.

How about?

I've seen a few F150's race.  Any veihicle can participate as long as it can pass tech.  No loose items (including floor mats) and the battery has to be tied down. One time I took a rental car out on the track.... good times...

This event is a UBC Sports Car Club event so I'd check their website to be certain.  I'm sure they would love it.

oh, I am crying.  its so sad

this is probably the funniest thing I have read in a long time.

hey shane, I have a good idea.  seeing that F150's are such great handling cars, you'd wonder why there is a roll over risk attatched to any and all new trucks, but who cares about that.  They handle great!  its weird to think that Ford never aggressively promoted the new F-150 by pushing marketing towards the outstanding handling features.

That was a Good joke.

Thanks Shane.

If you guys seriously think a 4708lb live axle behometh of a pickup without macpherson struts can outhandle a car with semi-trailing arm rear end with macpherson struts, grippy tires and weighs 2100lbs and is 1/3rd the size....

I need the drugs you guys are smoking.
You gotta be kidding me...
Title: Driving Schools...

your car may outhandle the truck but the truck driver could out drive you.

Post by: kirin on October 18, 2005, 10:43:29 PM
You seem so sure of it Chris.
Nowhere in this post did i ever say I could outdrive Pointblack. That being said my car could probably give a f150 a run for its money on a autocross course.
Where is shanes driving experience? Nobody has come forth and in till I actually hear about how many track days(other then drag) I will continue to have my doubts.
If we want to square things up I'm sure we could probabl convince a good buddy of mine who has a lot of track experience to drive my car to even things up.
I still think though a moderate driver with a good car would be pretty event with a excellent driver and a poor car.
Simply put if f150s were made for autocross don't you think you would see more out there?
Shake your heads...

sorry kirin, but track days don't mean shit.

driving skills come from experience -- amount of time spent messing up and learning from your mistakes -- not a weekend course in the boonies. this is just a guesstimate, but i believe shane's got 15 more years of driving under his belt than you.

regardless of the vehicles that go toe-to-toe in this ridiculous challenge, that amount of lopsided experience is going to equal only one thing:

Track days do mean shit,
Show me a driver that has had 15 years of driving experience and track days vs someone with 15 years driving expereince(If you got more the time has come and passed to come forward) It'll be fun to pick out all the bad habits that we can see. Just because you have 15 years driving experience doesn't necessarily mean your a better driver. Although this isn't necessarily the norm and true for Shane ... Youth can learn quickly. And never(Hold me for this) have I said I'm an expert at anything let alone driving. I'm a car enthusiast that likes corners. So maybe you should shoot me.

Bottom line I don't see you 76 bus out there learning to drive your car. Fair enough your choice. I'm out there learning to drive my car properly. Great for me.
Like I said in my second and first post that I hope this is the FIRST among many track days/ driving schools that I will participate.
Pointblank I apologize for thinking that your truck could eat more cones in one session then my rostwagen could. I guess I missed the f150 races out at mission this year. Sorry guys. NO matter what you do can you convince me that a stock 4x4 behometh can out handle a reasonably built car.

I won't challenge you in something that I cannot win or that isn't legit.

Since I've got her I've only done...
Floor pans,
Complete interior,
door seals,
tires,
rearshocks(Old ones were blown)
Battery cable fix
Turn signals
rebuilt the heater core 3 times
Fixed the jammed sunroof
fixed the misaligned door trim
... If that doesn't sound like a quality automobile I don't know what is

unfortunatly for me I have a big case of \"Caritis\" I can't leave well enough alone. I figured if I bought something reliable life would get boring. The 02 has never left me stranded(7000 miles thus far) and daily sees redline... is a hoot to drive and fits my lifestyle. If I wanted something reliable and hassle free I'd buy a new aveo.
Plus how many of you guys actually drive your aircooled daily?

How would you know?  You've never been in a 10 sec car for a straight line blast.

You shouldn't knock the Ford.  A while ago I was returning from Whistler on the S2S hwy, and I was schooled by a freakin Ford pickup.  Either his truck was that much better in cornering than my car, or he had waaaay bigger cajones than me.  New tires fixed my car's deficiency.

Even though your car has McPherson struts and an IRS rear, those pics of it nearly tipping over prove it doesn't handle worth shit.  Right away, you need thicker bars on it.  A set of Konis and some decent tires would transform that thing.

Yes, I have driven an '02 before.

Hey bruce.
My car has Bilstein HD's and Eibachs and Falken Ziex 512s. Right now I'm going to practice driving the car as it is. Then ramp it up a bit with perhaps stage 2 springs and adjustible sway bars. Whats interesting to note though is that we will see in the future what happens with 5lbs more tire pressure. The actual feathering on the tires wasn't too bad...
Talking to the Falken Rep today.

Whatever you do , do NOT go to Kirmac in Langley. Man they are terrible. I was actually smart enough to figure it out after the SECOND time I dealt with them. What a dummy. It is kind of like the concrete guy I hired up here. Man what an idiot. Shop floor is split from one end to the other a year later. Good thing he did my pump house floor too eh?? Sometimes you just don't learn.

If you have been to my place you would notice a huge amount of Stamped concrete I have , It is even in the Basement... So instead of gravelling a driveway around the house I wanted to use Concrete and almost shiat myself with the price.... I can't imagine what dood paid to do all the stamped here???

Yeah we all got completly owned by this body guy.
Made promises and now he has left his shop and left the country.. SO what do we do with my buddys car sitting in primerlocked in the shop that the landlord is about to shut down? Well we get the key.. get in there and spend 60 hours finishing prepping the car get it painted...
And it looks awful with hangers and stuff....
Luckily the next day the ICI auto guy comes by and looks at us and says it needs to be resprayed so we bring in his emergency tech sand it down.. remask and now she's purty...

But yes I would love to go back there and check it out and go back to Europe!
