Title: Running A Zero Mile 1776 Built Ages Ago
Post by: vwboop on October 08, 2005, 01:01:12 AM
Any advice on running a new motor built over ten years ago and never run? Does it need a complete teardown to lube it or ? Don't want to wreck a good motor.

If you have reason to believe that the engine was not built properly in the first place or...

The engine wasn't double sealed in plastic bags...

I would personally tear it down.  Moisture and dirt is the enemy.

Biggest concern would be the rings rusted to the cylinders (or rust on the cylinder walls) and gunky old moisture infested assembly lube inside.

Thanks,
Ya, I guess tearing it down would be worth it.
