So my bugs all but sold. I figure a motivation to start driving it again will be to get it plated and insured. Collector plates are best fitting my situation since it will be my weekend ride. And I have no will to make it into a 5.0 liter monster when I have found other ways to fix my need for speed for much cheaper ways..(Sad but true!)
Anyways, anybody gone through the process lately and has some tips to pass on..?

Bottom line is everything must be absolutely stock or if they discover you've done mods (other than improvements to the brakes) the insurance policy will be void.
260 bucks a year for my 67 creampuff.

67 is in the front and my 65 my other ride.
I suggest go to the autoplan place and get a application form for a collectors car plate. It will give you very detailed instructions on what is required. Get your digital camera out or regular camera and take alot of pics which they will tell you what angles is required. Give it to the insurance person and they will submit it to ICBC and you'll have to wait couple to several weeks to get a \"yes\" or \"no\" in acceptance of the car pics you enclose with the application.

Fair enough. Only thing not really OG is my ride hieght and disk brakes. But I will raise her up since I'm tired of scraping. THe only other thing is the none stock 1600 but that doesn't really matter does it?

depends on who inspects it, to make collectors plates usually everything must be stock, ie drivetrain (motor, brakes) try and find someone who will fudge a bit on the inspection

Re your ? about 1600 A neighbour is restoring a 56 chev to factory and I rem him saying that engine has to have all external stock stuff (must look stock) but they don't know what size internals of engine are and can't tell if cammed , crank etc.

no one inspects your car in person. They base this application strictly on photographs only.
Read the application and it'll indicate any improvements to brakes is allowed. So if you have disk brakes its ok.

I was really mental about how stock my bus looked when I applied for collector plates but then I see cars like this and I don't get it?? There is nothing stock about this car. Paint, ride height, wheels, door handles, tweed interior, disk brakes, billet steering wheel???? WTF?

Sure sounds to me like you are giving ICBC grounds to void the insurance if by chance you should ding up your vintage ride. Anyone who has ever dealt with \"Dark Side\" of ICBC will tell you. Once you have had an accident they look for ANY reason to void the claim. I see two different takes on the Brakes. Find out which is correct. Vintage brakes are just that vintage and not the greatest. The disc brakes you've added are a much needed upgrade. Unfortunately it's also VERY easy to see by even the untrained eye.
As far as the engine goes. I've known guys who have had their insurance claim revoked due to modified engines after an accident. I know there is a huge difference between a 1200cc to 1600DP upgrade and say a 289 to a 427 but a change is a change and ICBC will look if there is an accident and they are PMS'in that day.

I'm sorry but if the guy has an accident he's screwed. I saw a beautiful red old chevy pickup with similar wheels with \"collectors plates\" and I was thinking the same...WTF!! he'll cry when an issue arises.

ICBC has collector plates for modified cars. 1949 and prior only. That fella with the rod has that kind of insurance I'm sure.

Anything that is a safety improvement is acceptible, ie: Disc brakes, seatbelts front and rear, 12volt conversion, Wiper improvement, radial tires ect.
The mod plate is a recent development for currently the 49 and prior but they are woking on it!
I believe it was the Mustang and thuderbird clubs that fowarded the Modified plate towards ICBC and currenty are trying to make the status to 1970 and prior.

That will absolutely never happen. Lanny was telling me that when he was talking to the guy at ICBC in charge of Specialty Vehicle Registrations, he said that ICBC makes big money on pre-49 cars since there are almost no claims. The same goes for up to 57. But for 60s cars the claims jump radically since many are still used as true daily drivers. What ICBC is planning is to extend the Modified collector plates up to 57. And no further.

There is another type of insurance that is called \"agreed value\" Insurance.
In this case you and ICBC agree on the value of the car before anything bad happens. Unfortunately it does not come with collector plates and is not cheaper, but it is more reassuring.
I would like to get it but I need an appraisal of my car, does anybody have any experience on what they will accept? Do you have any recommendations?
