Does anyone know of a shop around town that can chrome plate magnesium? Found some places in the USA but i'm not to keen on sending it down there.
Just finishing the mock up of the 911 fan and i need it to look pretty. :)
Last resort would be to powercoat it.
Thanks guys!

I wouldnt plate the mag fan and housing. I have been down this road and I'll tell ya what I have found. The mag holds moisture and needs to breath and will continue to try and breath whith a chrome coating on it. This leads to chrome bubbles and flaking. I also tried to clear coat it after it was polished...no go as it will turn the clear yellow as time go's on.
I also tried to ceramic coat one and that was the worst result, The best thing is to polish it and keep polishing every month....just remember that when you lift the lid after sitting all winter the fan will be grey black again as withing 2 months or so the outside air will react with it.

Thanks geoff, after polishing it, would waxing it keep it from dulling?
I'm a novice when it comes to polishing mag, all i know is that it will take some elbow grease. Can you point out materials to use and procedures that would be good to follow?
Thanks

Your first step is to sand all rough castings, Then use scotch pad and or steel wool, Then it's time to use the wet dry sand paper and lots of soapy water. Once it's all smooth you can hand polish it with autosol or somthing similar. The best polish will be achieved with the use of a polishing wheel and a bench grinder.
Just watch out if you are using the bench grinder as you may catch a fin and send the fan flying.

You could always talk to wheel brite too. I think that's what they're called, in port kells. Have had good experiences there, overall.
