Title: Flame Thrower
Post by: rustybus on March 07, 2005, 02:15:13 PM
I was thinking of putting a flame thrower on my oval. The old school way I have every thing I need including a model \"A\" buzz coil. Any one else done this before ? Is there any do's and don'ts I should know about. B)  Yes I know it is illegal.
Thanks
Chris

Are you talking about a spark plug in your exhaust?

Yes I will be putting a spark plug in the exuast. There is a trick to get a flame without cheating with a propane injection . Besides playing with fire is more fun than basket weaving

If you just use a spark plug and no propane why can't you just use your choke for the extra enrichment that sounds a little safer than a bottle of propane or an extra fuel source.

you still need the air to push the flame out. the best way i would think is if you were drivin down the road to turn on your extra spark plug, turn off you engine, and pump the gas that way your pumpin raw fuel through the exhaust. just a thought  :D

they had a segment on this on \"trucks\", to get enough gas it had somethign to do with reving it to a certain point and keeping it there   i cant remember exactly but they had a kit for it

Raw gas is not something you want to push through your engine on a regular basis. I've seen a friend of Geoff's with an amazing rod, he uses a propane set-up and gets 3 foot flames out the back

I believe the kit they used on truckin was from autoloc (http://www.autoloc.com/products/flame.lasso (http://www.autoloc.com/products/flame.lasso))
I see that flamed notchback (vwcolin?) around all the time here in the summer. He mentioned something about how he bought his setup as a kit off of a guy who makes them locally.
Heres another company who sells this kind of kit. They have some questions and answers to go by here: LINK (http://www.gotflames.net/hypercart/faq.asp#57)

The kit that i have on my car was bought locally here in vancouver...the guy's name is bad pat...i do not know if he still sells them...but he is always at car shows locally here selling t-shirts..he drive a 30/31 model A pick-up...the kit included a circut box, instructions and 2 spark plug bungs (to weld in each of the tail pipes) you have to supply (depending on how many exaust tips you have) a coil, sparkplug for each and a 2 position switch.
you rev the engine (when ehaust tips are warm) hit the switch and, while the engine is slowing down pump the gas...the raw gas goes thru the ehaust pipes and is engnited by the spark plugs.

tip: install the plug 2\" away from the end....AND if possible make the exaust tip's a large dia....it not the flame is small and very loud (shot gun)

hope this helps

its cool when cars actually project flames because they are tuned so agressively!

but if not, it sure would be awesome to have for those tailgaters
