Anyone know what the deal is with having to get the car through the VI in 45 days i have phoned the relevant people but seemed to get a mixture of contrasting info. Its not like my ride will need a rebuild or anything but i would like to know just incase there are any nasty suprises....
Thanks
Dott

My understanding is...if your importing you have 45 days to get the car tru a B.C. inspection. If you don't get it tru within that time frame...you then have to bring all your paper work...along with your inspection back out to the boarder and get the paper work updated. I believe there is a small charge for this....most importantly...keep all your paper work..they don't need to see the car again..just your inspection. I got this information from the boarder when I brought my car in from the U.S., so I will be doing the same thing when i eventually finish my project.
Good luck!

Thanks Surg that makes things clearer the people i spoke to couldn't understand that it might be hard to get parts for an older car and seemed to think i had to return it to the border for another inspection. my main concern was that as i have some unplanned time off due to my lay off so i figured i could get stuck into some thing that needed labour not parts but if i had to put it back together again then id need the parts???duh . anyway thanks for clearing that up

Took me about 6 months to get mine through the VI. I didn't do anything special or tell the border.
ICBC would only issue me point to point permits after the 45 days.
No biggie.

Sounds even better, its my only transport so could do without the back and forth unless necessary
Cheers

Did you have to pay for the 45 day permits?
Or what was the process to renew?

Sorry I should have been more clear. The permits are only so I could drive the car to the shop for the VI. Other than that you don't need a permit or anything on the car.

Thanks so if i got this right 45 days to get it throughthe inspection after importing, i've got the once only ins for bringing it back and i'll take it for the inspection that day as well, then take it back to my place off the road all in the same day. Then i need another ins cert to drive it again on the road ie to take it back to the Vi place once i've fixed things that didn't pass the inspection the first time, and i would then take it to the ins place too get the paperwork for my years ins????thats it as i understandit??
Thanks for your time in explaining
