Title: This Is Probably A Dumb Question.
Post by: steveo_32 on December 29, 2004, 08:47:54 PM
On my 59 single cab There is a 62 tranny and no brace......My question is a bus brace different from a bug?
Second is a bug tranny going to have problems with a 1600 and reduction gear's?
I just dont know about buses.

Hi Steve, I'm not too clear on your first question but If you asking about the trans mount or frame horns. The bus and beetle are different but are similar in apearance and both use the beetle type rubber mounts.

The early buses do not use a motor brace as the later 68-71 buses have.

You cant just instal a beetle swing trans and add the reduction boxes or you will have 4 reverse gears and one very short forward gear. You can \"Flip: the ring gear to the other side on a beetle trans and use it with reduction boxes

you could get a straight axle kit and remove the reduction boxes. Just a thought

Hey Steve , I'm not sure about your 59 but my 57 has the ruber gromet style front mount that just fits around the nose cone and slips into the frame ( no bolts) . This means I will probably have to weld in a mount such as the intermediate mounts that airspeed sell to put in a later trans.  Is this what you mean? Has someone just stuck in a later trans with no front mount?

I really should be more technical sorry guys!
I was told the tranny was out of a bug and ready to go, but there is no motor mount to the frame horns
And I forgot about the reverse setup.  So I guess i need to put a motor in and find out!
