James, yes i was thinking sometime in May. We will have to wait and see what dates Mission sets for the 2004 season.
If we do it on a test n tune day we then have all day to make runs and you some have made 20+ runs in a day. I think it costs between 50-60ea for a test n tune day but then we can make a whole day event of it.
If it's a friday night it is always a gamle to get in and a rush to be there before the gate opens.

So as it stands here are some ideas for the rules.
1) we all meet at Airspeed or another location that everyone can agree on.
2) we all fill our cars at one Chevron and only run pump gas.
3) everyone drives their cars to the track, 1/2 way on the highway and the other 1/2 the back roads in start and stop conditions.
4) everyone weighs in so there are no suprises, If you want to make weights even to race a friend even better. But like James said people with a 82 or 84 crank have a power advantage over the smaller motors.
If you want a trailor there to tow you home, have a friend bring one but they should be able to drive home under their own power.
If we have enough people who want to do this we can make a few classes, maybe a stroker and non stroker class?
Post your ideas.

I'm in!
My idea's:
3 classes - non stroke, stroked, and helper class (turbo, NAWS)
Drive out from airspeed like geoff said, but if a friday night is that busy, than a test and tune day would be better, more track time.
Have some grudge match ups so I can finally kick Brian's ass and get a case of beer outta him (btw brian your bud is getting dusty in my garage!)
Have fastest et & mph awards.
-
James, your motor will fall into the non stroker class just like Kevins T4. This means we will finally get to see you two go head to head. I hear Kevin may go turbo, if so this will put Kev in with the big boys (Turbo NOS class).
This could turn out to be a good winter long smack talk sesion :D
-
1 thing to add to that class would be alternate power - v8, subaru etc - not that there are many around but you never know.
And I'm pretty sure Kev will have a turbo by then, that way he doesn't have to race me : B)

Ummmm.... a 1971 is not BIG BOYS, well OK maybe some guys are running 10.?? with a sub 2 litre turbo, but I will only be running 12 pounds max. should get me a low 13 second slip with my super slug.

I'm in....I just hope the Notch will be ready in time....for those of us (read:me) that live out in the sticks do I gotta drive out to airspeed and back again?? I'm only 10 mins from the track....I guess if were makin it fair though I should join the drive to the track. I guess I should set my goal to finish the car for may then huh.

I'll be there. Might even have the 58 done by then. I think we will have to buckle down this winter and get these projects done!
-
When we be able to get a firm date for this? Does the track let the schedule out any time this year or do we have to wait till next year?
-
James, Not sure when the new events listing will be ready but im sure it will be late this year or early next.
Airspeed will sponsor prizes as well as being open to any other shop/person who would like to chip in.
James, you better get going on your car as you only have a year to get it ready and we don't want a repeat of this year. :(

Ahhh shit here we go again!!!!
Hey Geoff, I can chip in on some prizes/awards.... I'll talk to you about it next time I'm in. (tmrw)
-
I'm in! Just let me know the dates when you know them.

Would you guys consider allowing some of the watercooled guys in on this? Don't get me wrong here, if it's all air that's cool, I'd still love to watch this event! I for one would like to finally see that "Goldmember" car & it's blowhard driver properly schooled by a multitude of aircoolers. All the more reason for my conversion (or coming home, depending on how one looks at it) to the aircooled side of things
-
Hey Geoff,
Pointblank will sponser some prizes as well
Cheers
Shane :D
-
Great! Thanks Shane,James, the more sponsorship/prizes the better. This could turn out to be a good event with lots of cars. We have already had a few customers come in and start on their new engines for next year
-
Any other non strokers out there?
-
me...but I'm sure the turbo will be in by then
Kevin
-
Hey Shane, what do you do for a living?
-
You guys can count me in as well. As far as the beer goes I will give you guys a chance to win your beer back.
-
James do you mean me or the other Shane (Roodie)?
I buy sell and install modular buildings.. Portable Classrooms...Renovations etc. :D
-
How about a class for us heavier cars. Just a thought.
-
Hey Bruce, as for having to add weight to my car.....You may have to add weight to yours to make it even with my bus :o or maybe i'll go in the non stroker class and race James. Wouldn't that suck getting beat by a bread box on wheels
-
I wouldnt rub it in ;) not too much anyways! Whos Bruce? :(
-
Keep us up to date to Geoff. I'll see if any locals might want to come on over. Peter,Wayne Davis etc.
-
That would be great Mark, i'll updat everyone as we get closer.
-
That sounds like a great idea! Must be nice to have so many fast cars in one area.
Keep me in the loop and I will post some info on Cal-Look.com.
Will there be a special "Gutwagen" class for Geoff?
-
Cornpanzy, I hear your doing a bunch of changes to your car? By the sounds of things it will be a trailor queen race car and you will no longer be able to enjoy a nice long drive? fill us in on the changes.....
Here's a pic of Daves car if you havent seen it yet. Very nice orig black 67, Daves a bit of a drinker and womanizer so mind the beers and bra's :D

Hahaha, Just joking with ya Buddy :P
Yeah, i think we have a great bunch of fast cars in our area and this should be a lot of fun.
-
I wondered where that picture would appear first. Goes to show, you should never leave your car unattended!
My big plans? Well, I thought about paring the weight of my car down to your race weight. I just couldnt find anywhere to shave 300 lbs. :P
Hey, any chance i could get a copy of the Video you shot at the Classic?
Thanks
Dave
-
Yeah i just gotta find it and put it on VHS. I'll get on it soon.......where is the video from 3 years ago i was promised. the one with me doing the burn out at Knowlwoods?
-
Dude, John P has that and there is no way to get him to give stuff up. I am still trying to get a video that he took of my car making passes in front of the VWOA headquarters 4 years ago.
-
Lol, oh well i guess i'll see it some day.
i'll try and get the video done next week.
-
Sooooo.....what is everyone planning???
Me ..I hope to have the 72 chop ready depending on which month this event is held for this year I will have a turbo'd single port 1600 just to get the bugs out of the turbo system, mainly the carb as it doesn't use jets but rather a needle that is tapered, which has to be profiled to get the proper air/fuel ratio. I plan on droping the front by cutting a pie shape out of the frame head, making some adjusters for the beam, and changing from a swing axel to an irs. Still have to finish welding the door shapes to match the chop...Well first would be to bring the car here from Shanes house.. There's work to be done but can't start till other things are done at my house before the car, I really hope this race isn't planned for April
So am I aloud to disconect the turbo and race James in his car? ......Ohhhhhhhh.....right I forgot his car wont be ready yet.
Here we go.............Bring it on.........
Kevin
.....Brian what is your address again? I still owe you BEER!!!!
-
Disconnect the turbo....then not only will it be a hella slow "turbo" but and even slower non - why not build a normal engine that WILL perform?
I believe May is the target month for the event.
