Meanest sounding car I ever heard, and only 1.5 litres too. This sounds way meaner than any formula 1 car I have heard. F1 engines scream, this one growls.

That's cause you play with single ports and not real engines!

no pictures?

think about the bore and stroke of that motor, assuming that its a box motor it would have a bore and stroke of 50 mm!
thats like 16 lawnmower pistons!

OHH YAA!! I've heard that before. Played it over about 156 times so far.
I'm guessing they fire 2 cylinders at a time making it sound like an 8 cylinder.
Remember , this is 1950's technology. Well over 400 hp from under 1500 cc
Amazing!!! Not sure if it was supercharged or anything.

Here''s some info

600 hp at 12,000 rpm :o
Still hard to believe 1500cc's would sound like this. I heard this sound file probably 2 years ago, and could never find it again till today.

BRM did a double flat 8 to make a 3 liter in 67. One 1500cc flat eight above the other. That is the most bizzare race engine I know of and it actually won a race (maybe the only time it finished?), and it can be heard in the movie \"Grand Prix\". Really some amazing tech back then, as example the gear drive dohc carrera Porsche.

Ya , I was just reading about that H 16. Reminds me of the truck (can't remember if it was a single or double cab or chopped up bus) that had two vw motors stacked on top of each other connected with belts and pulleys. The lower one was in it's normal position on the trans . The other helping power the thing through the belts. Saw it at the SIR bug in's over 20 years ago.
Thanks for that link Billy. That 1489cc v16 was getting over 5 bar of boost.
Correct me if I'm wrong....1 bar= about 13psi?
Anyway , lots of great info on the BRM cars and company but no mention of the famous VW wheels [_[
