The old square automatic is slowly playing out on me. Only gets up to about 40 mph then the engine revs and doesn't go any faster. It will go a little quicker if you only give it a little gas, but looses mucho power on hills.
I was planing on switching it over to a four speed this summer so I have a semi-decent pan that I can use but looks like I'll be doing it a lot sooner. (Like this weekend!) Anyone up for body some switching?
Oh well I'm sure the four speed will be a lot more fun to driver with the 1914.
Having a VW as a daily driver sure is fun sometimes :D

I can give you a day! Let me know what your plans are.
-
I can give you some day time hours ;) evenings are booked

I'm busy all weekend. But there was a 68 fastback in the buy/sell with another auto pan, tranny. $500. I went and saw the car a while ago, pretty rough but all there. not a bad deal as it comes with that extra pan/tranny.

Thanks guys, I'll probably just stick with changing it to a four speed.
Probably try and do most of the swapping on Sat.

What's the chances that the pan halves are good???
Vulture :D :D :D
I might have to use them on the 4 speed pan....if not I'll send up with James.
-
Shitty luck dude. Hope it goes well for ya. If I can help in any way just call.
-
Vulture?? I prefer the word Buzzard. Always circling ;) Thanks man. Appreciate it!
-
Sorry man Saturday is out for me now , I forgot I am working
-
I got the 4 speed pan body off today....most of the front pan halves are rusted out so it looks like I'll be cutting the halves off of the automatic and welding them on the 4 speed pan...lots of work :D
Good news is that the square is pretty much rust free and all the body bolts should come right out.
If I can get this done by next week do you think Chip will let me on Overhaulin??
-
do you still need a hand on saturday? if so, what time are you thinking?
-
I have found the answer to all my pan swapping problems

SO your running a hydro clutch....not swapping the pan?
-
You got it. It's a pretty cool set-up. All you have to do is cut a 3\" x 4\" hole in the tunnel directly across from the pedals, the cylinder actually attaches to the original cable mount on the pedal, runs the lines and your done (Okay probablly a little more to it than that) but it's been done by others on T3 will little or no problems.
-
SOunds cool, and no broken cables to boot. Are you able to set the pressure for pedal stiffness?
-
Not sure if can set it or not. I did read that it makes the clutch pedal nice and easy even with a big racing clutch.
-
Cool ! .......but what about the shift tube? Is there somewhere for it to exit the pan? Access hole for the coupler? Sorry.... Just thinking out loud
-
It has the access hole for the coupler,,,,,just need to drill out a hole for the shift tube. I'll use the other pan as a guide.
-
so what is the plan for saturday then?
-
Not much of a plan for Saturday.....I'm kind stuck until the hydraulic clutch gets here. But thanks to everyone that offered to help me out
-
Spent the day pulling the old tranny and getting the four speed in. It went really good with no real problems. So far all I had to do was drill a hole for the shift rod to meet up with the tranny and install the four speed plate for the shift rod/shifter holder.
Just waiting on the hydraulic clutch now.
-
so how long for that?
-
I'm hoping by Weds of this week....
-
good choice, seeing as the cruise is wednesday night.
-
hey guys while your on the subject is there any diference between the pan from an semi auto to a standard
-
Cool! I got my Saco Hydraulic Clutch kit today! Plus I spent the afternoon sipping pints at Semiahmoo overlooking the bay!
-
Did you save me a drink?
If you need any help with the Square give me a call, I'll have some free time over the holidays.
-
