Actually the motor is a watercooled Nissan engine... :o ... Ya I know I am way on the dark side  , And I wouldn't coun't for the top 10 anyway since it is not aircooled :( . But it is only a 1600cc engine, and being whupped by a 1600cc has got to hurt no mater what it is. Lookout guys
There... the cat is out of the bag.
Geoff I will PM you. since I still have not even looked at the beam brakes yet. It is on the car still under a tarp in the corner of the yard.

Well Kevin no one can accuse you of not dreaming big...even though that is what you are doing .. :P

well there has been a big change.. ..... Since I hadn't paid for this motor yet and it was still in the car waiting to be taken out, the original owner of the car that had given it to the autowreckers changed his mind, and wanted it back to give to someone who needed a car.....Hmmmmmmmm.
The autowrecker owner felt pretty bad and I made quite a fuss ( I know it is totally out of character for me, but really how many good engine cars end up at the auto wreckers... especially in Sicamous), so he gave me a Celica GTS...yes the whole car :o with a 1998cc 3sge motor in it. For you guys that don't know it is 173 hp... 141 ftlbs tq 4 cylinder engine. They are a very strong engine and have gotten 300 hp NA. I look forward to boosting it. The turbo I have here will boost approx 350 hp, so it looks like I will be sporting more power than I thought. I most likely will leave it NA and use all the fuel injection on the motor this first year. It will be plenty to learn on for the first few outings of racing.
Since I have the whole car, I have also thought about a mid engine conversion using the front clip with the 5 speed tranny I have thought about this lots even before I had any engines lined up, but I would like to leave the back seat in for those summer family cruises to A&W. So we'll see.
I think we need a conversion forum now for those of us with a streak for the dark side.

I'm 100% a streak on the dark side, but 100% with the aircooleds/VW's. I'd never sell out on VW's completely. I'm sure 90% of people on this board are thankful that they drive some sort of a watercooled car :P.
those celica motor are fairly bullet proof. I'm thinking about picking up a subaru WRX STI in the near future. 2.5L horizontally opposed 4 cylinder producing 300 LBS of torque, and 300 HP. stock 13.2 in the 1/4, 6 speed etc. perfect daily driver. I've already inquired and test drove a few.
but this is a VW site. so they way you are looking at it kevin, its unfair. Its like taking the above mentioned car and because its stock with a 2.5L turbo'd motor, comparing it to a bored out 1600 aircooled motor that has been punched to 2.5L and the rest of the components remain 1600, would be unfair.
I can understand why you would want to use a toyota motor or whatever...because they are indistructable. but wouldn't it be more fun to have an nice 2275cc with 48 IDA's in the back of a beetle than a cut up and hacked up celica that every highschool kid drives around? When I see those cars riced out, I think to myself...what a piece of carp. stick to the aircooled. At least I think so
