'just wondering what the normal operating tempature of a vw beetle motor should be?
i have a 1914cc, and the temp gauge will go to 170degrees, is that to much, or normal?
-
I thought anything under 190 was alright. just read it somewhere though.

oil temp gauge? 170-215 is fine and dandy
-
Where do you have the temp being read from?

That is not very hot at all. My 1835 runs at 180 on the highway, and will hit 200 in traffic on a 25-30 degree day. All stock doghouse tin with a 1.5 quart sump (temp sender in sump).

Porsche recommends a max continuous operating temp of 230
