Title: Old Hot Vws
Post by: silas on October 22, 2004, 09:02:23 PM
i stopped by wilkinsons automobilia on the way home from school today to check out the books, manuals, toys, mags, etc that they have there and ended up picking up a couple of old hot vws magazines.

feb 2000 - cal-look issue with jose medranos sweet black 55 oval and steve beechers zwitter features really stood out. i've always liked these cars. i've seen pics on the net but it's also nice to see more detailed pics and read about the cars and their features. a couple other ovals, a how to lower the rear of a type 1 and some good coverage of the gcvws. and, smack dab in the middle is the calender and a wicked photo sequence of the one and only gkafer smoking the s#!t out of the wheels on his 59.

sept 2001 - brad langs 60 ghia vert. holy cow. what a car. i personally think that brad was onto something here and that the ghia was a little before its time. an adjustable ride with air shocks and torque thrusts werent the norm back then were they? the custom shock mounts on all corners and a radically narrowed front beam (7\"s) with 6\" wheels on the front. and 8\" wheels crammed in the rear wells. and the one-off front and rear bumpers. and the custom top and meticulous wiring and the cleanliness of the engine bay and the colour and clean motor. the list goes on. and to have the balls to drive it all the way to the classic and show it and drive back. amazing. kudos to you brad.

i'm pretty sure he sold the car. does anyone know where it resides and who the lucky sob is that owns it?

2 good mags and well worth the $8 i spent. for those of you who havent been to wilkinsons, you should check it out. and they're also having a fall sale in a week on pretty much everything in store.

The Ghia was sold to a collector in the midwest of the usa. It probably will never be driven again, aparently the guy has a large number of collector old vehicles

Next time anybody's in Wilkinson's, ask for me and introduce yourself and I'll make sure you get a deal.
