Title: Body Molding Install
Post by: jim martin on September 21, 2004, 08:31:42 PM
i was just outside and figured i would install some bodty trim over a evening cup of coffee.this is what i have ,let me know if i'm doing it wrong.
have the wide polished body trim, installed black rubber boots into all body holes,  fit black clips into moldings which appears too take a slight bend on the tips of the clips or they won't slide into the trim. after i alighn the clips infront of the rubber boots a slight squeeze with a pair of 90 deg needle nose pliers helps compress the clips and the molding pops on.
but after all that the molding sits away from the body because it seams the upper and lower sections of the trim piece contact the black rubber boots.
--is this normal or i'm i missing something??

Good, I am not the only one that is having this problem, I cant get the trim to work on my 62 either, the boots do appear to be in the way of the clip, its almost like a spacer and then the chrome doesnt touch the car, mine are still not on because of this.  Somebody help us!!!

i took the molding back off and all the black clips are deformed, seams that maybe if the clips don't slide smoothly when compressed together they jam and will not expand tight in the rubber boots.??
will make a phone call today, maybe its best to have original spring steel clips

The new boots (last 2 years) are larger than orig, I can order some German ones for those who want them.

hey jim,

are all the clips mounted in the molding the same way? i believe there is a certain way to put them in. try turning the clips 90% so if you are looking down at the trim the clip looks like a \"v\" coming out of the molding.
