Title: Punchbuggies Dealings?
Post by: 72vwtype2 on September 02, 2004, 07:36:33 PM
I was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with PunchBuggies (in Edmonton)? I am considering purchasing one of their vehicles. They seem to have a large selection of complete VW's.  Also has someone ever shipped a vehicle from Edmonton (or similar distance) to the Vancouver area? How did you ship/train/truck  the vehicle and what was the approx. cost?

Thanks.

Never dealt with him, but was also looking at one of his cars...if you can wait I'm flying out to Edmonton for buisness in mid-October and can give the car a good once over for you.

I used to sell parts to them when I worked at Cal Imports. The guys seemed to be pretty good but I would want to see a car in person from anyone if Im buying it

For Shipping I use a local moving company called Mur's moving. He goes out both those ways often (Alberta and the coast) give Murray or his wife Marie (thus Mur's moving) a call as he is quite reasonable if he is heading that way anyways.....tell him Mr. Inkster sent ya......250-832-9782

I was looking at the 55 Ghia they have for sale. He sent me this response: 55 Ghia is $1500.  Nicely restorable, even though it has been shot.
56 Single cab is still restorable, but needs a lot of work.  $1500.
Anyone know what the cheapest way to ship a vehicle from Alberta to Montreal would be?
He sent me some pics, but I'm not sure how to post them here.

It's not a 55 Ghia, I don't think there is such a thing.

I went to his boneyard to check out all the VW's he got.  Of the 20-30 odd VW's, the only decent one might be this black oval.   The rest have been there just too long.

The Ghia would need a miracle to restore, or alot of talent!  But it is a droop nose.  I would label it terminal rust (ie, rockers and door supports).

The SC is pretty decent for 1500.  It's got some nice patina and it's probably the least rusty of the bunch.  Probably the only worth buying.  I don't think it's a 56 though.  I didn't have a look underneath as there was too much grass and stuff.

He's got a few more cool objects, like a 53 Sema, Ragtop shell (totally stripped, but cool rag).  Also, has a chop top oval!

Best way to deal wth him (Rob) is bring cash, make the deal and that's that.

I've seen a few late '55 Ghias on the net. Defining characteristics are the one piece bumpers, which were changed to 3 piece in mid 56 I believe. I'm bidding on a decent '56 on ebay and it seems to have the 1 pc bumpers too. Also has a rare nose grille. :o

There is a mid-late 50's ghia near my house that has been sitting in the grass for 5+ years that I know of - what are they worth if they are restorable?

Yup, sweet ghia.  Don't know about that nose grill.  ;)

I'd roll it the way it is.

There's no such thing as a 55 Karmann Ghia.  The first model year was 56.  Cars built at the end of the 1955 calendar year are 56s.

It's what I said, but no one listens to me :)

Technically, there is 55 Ghias (prototypes.)

There used to be a huge VW bone yard(800-1000 cars)about 40 miles from me, but owner was a damn nut. Price he asked for used parts was more than buying them new. He closed down a few years ago, and everything went to the crushers. :o Mostly 60's and 70's stuff, but I do remember seeing a few barn door buses. Last time I was there, I got into a disagreement about his prices and he told me never to come back.

There are known 53 ghia's proto's too.
I've heard good and bad, you should really go see them, as for shipping you can get it shipped by train and it is not to expensive, Or hire a driver about 800, and less to get both here.
