my mobile tech today was at someones house doing a service and noticed there was a black beetle in the guys garage that was stuffed way in the back corner,owner says its been in there about 9 years and at that time he had it repainted and the interior done,and now would like to maybe get rid of it,i know without getting a closer look at it you cant put a price on it,but lets say its in good shape.any ideas on a fair price range so i have some ideas of value .

One year only for alot of pieces - make restoring one more expensive then other bugs. Lanny is the 67 guy I'm sure he'll chime in.

hey jim. it's like you said, it's really hard to put a price on it until you see it up close. if it is straight and absolutely rust free and complete w/ all the parts and not running, i'd say anywhere between $4000-$6000.
if you want to go check it out, i wouldnt mind tagging along.

$4-6K for a car that isn't running?!?! Maybe a really complete oval but a '67?!?! Sure it's a desirable year but that's a hell of a lot of money for a non running vehicle. Maybe I'm out of line here but that just seems a little high.

Allthough , it does seem to me that the average semi clean / semi rusty super beetles are going for $4000 to $6000. And I think we can assume that this car runs , just may not have been run for 9 years . But that being said ,I think the point of stumbling across a car in the back of someones garage thats been sitting and is now unwanted ,is to buy it some what below it's value . Sure would be nice if you could get it for around $2000 ;)

About six years ago I bought a 67 type 1 from a kid in Yarrow, semi-custom,running, insured, no rust, I mean no rust in the pan--from Calif originally $3000.00;

have to finnish one very important project first !.then i will work on going out there in the next couple of weeks to get a good look at it ,as well as feel the guy out for a price,if its ok and complete i'm going to target around 1800-2000 first.will let you know silas when i will be going out

well, at least i had the balls to take a stab at a price while everyone was sitting around thinking about it. ;)
now remember what i said. \"straight and absolutely rust free and complete w/ all the parts and not running\". how hard would it be to get it running? probably not that hard if it's just been sitting in a dry garage for the last 9 years. the major factor is rust, straight panels and completeness. would i pay 4-6k? maybe. is it worth it? not neccesarly. it could be that the owner thinks its worth more because it was freshly painted and its got a new interior. it could be that the owner believes it's worth more than it actually is. it may be a low mileage one owner car that the owner just wants to unload for under 1k. too many variables.
if it was me, rather than get my hopes up only to have them shattered, i would assume the worst. 6k and full of rust w/ a velour interior and honda buckets. anything better than that is cake.
