Title: Question For Westy Fans
Post by: Chris on August 30, 2004, 10:39:58 PM
I have the opportunity to buy a drive away tent from a 70's westy, great shape, brown/orange, rubber floor. I have been researching and have seen a varied yet large price range, what would people pay for something like this? Do I have the opportunity to retire like James does with his plastic model kit or what?

This is actually a serious inquiry, thanks.

Anwhere between ten bucks and eight or nine hundred depending on how much you need or want it. I think they are the best. I had a 1960 SO23 with the full tent and it was great except you had to attach it to the bus. Great souvenir but not usable. I would however recommend that you have two tents, one for camping and one dfor showing

Hey 76  I'm sorry yes i paid $40 for mine , I looked on samba and they were going for about 450 to 500 american and the one at the gcvs was 900 I think I would say I thought when I set it up a month  back it was wicked and increased my camping space (dry space ) look what kind of crap tents you get for say $260 at Canadian tire Not close to that westy tent the floor is super thick and water proof and cool as hell If you can make  a deal that you feel good with not anyone else go for it . Th ey aint making them anymore ! If you don't like it you can sell it I love mine . And tod i had nothing to do with the wasps sorry your kid got stung can you post those pics you took of the van ? Keep me informed of the purchase 76 bus ,I thought Hans had a friend looking for a tent also you could be the middle man and make a few bucks

thats an early 70s westy tent.  With no rips maybe 500USD.  Really rare are the 50-60s tents and they go big dollars.  Mid 70s + had brown tents i believe.  The drive away tents aren't really as big as the mounted tents but still fetch a decent price.  There was one at vintage meet for 1500 usd (?) but i talked with that guy and it was a really sweet a$$ tent and virtually NOS.  His dad was the original owner and only put it up like 3 times.
