I would like to dip the gas tank (bay window) and coat it properly. I talked to the rad guy that did a bike tank for me but he says it would be 400 to 500 bucks! Any suggestions? He would give a lifetime guarantee on the lining.

Don't coat it unless it's peppered with pinholes, bare metal with a little phosphate on it lasts forever if you don't let it sit with bad gas in it for years, coatings sometimes debond and peel off in sheets. Here's how to DIY with ~ $30 in materials: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378770

Atwell's page says to coat it with POR 15. That's a coating isn't it?

Better read a few other reviews first, POR-15 has the highest rate of failure and is almost impossible to dissolve if it fails and you want it gone, it peels off in big outlet blocking sheets. If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to coat I'd go for the Bill Hirsch stuff or the red stuff, both of those are ethanol resistant and go away easily with MEK if you ever change your mind.
I'm still most fond of bare metal if it's at all possible, there's a few ways to dissolve the shellac and muriatic acid followed by phosphoric removes all the rust, keep it full of fresh gas with the cap on and it'll outlive you.

I was hesitant on doing a coat as well but since we had to weld my tank we though it best as fuel ist thiner than water. with water my tank was leak free. We used the POR-15 kit its still curing :-) and I'm hoping that we have good results with it as i'm running E85 in my Car. lots of love hate comments on the net about almost all the different coatings that are out there.
Sorry
I haven't yet put fuel in it that will happen this summer so can say yay or nay at this time.
Cheers Rene

If you need your tank rebuilt I used Leakers Gas Tanks in Aldergrove. Great guy and fair prices.

Leakers was great, IIRC he moved a few years ago to the Okanagan. Canada Radiator on Clark Drive in Vancouver can do tanks although the prices are all over the map.
