Title: 1957 Karmen Cabriolet!
Post by: steveo_32 on August 10, 2004, 09:05:54 PM
Thinking of makin the 57 into a baja?? just want to see peoples thoughts!

FACTS: very rusty, all fenders pretty much fell off from the body, front apron pouched and rear is just as bad, Door gap is ugly, (rear apron has widened the top gap to 3/4 of an inch due to sagage!) Doors have no rust and I have spares too!! ideas?

20 bucks eh? sounds pretty good!! Let me think about that...........
The other option for the car is BAGGIN IT! front clip replaced and rear I'll make removable as for the gap
DA WELDER!! can fix it. rod the livin crap out of it and then get Thrasher to pinstrip all over and have fun!
That and fiberglass the whole thing and make it into a hot tub!

If I can't have it then this is definitely the best option so far.

Hey Steveo,

If the doors are in better shape than mine, I'll buy them off of you...
They should fit my '58 nicely. Actually the first model year for the Cabriolet was '58,
so I'm a liitle confused about the reference to '57...

1958 was the first year for a Ghia convertible but the Beetle convertible was introduced in the kdf era. I think there's a 1939 model on display in the VW museum in Germany. Actual production didn't start until 1949 though : 1949-1952 Karmann Kabriolett (http://www.kabriolett.com/karmann/index2.htm)

It's OK. I understand now. I was thinking, TYPE 1 Karmann Ghia convertible, not Type 1
Karmann convertible.... DOH!
