-
thanks ... exactly what im looking for ... I really don't feel like driving from the island to Kelowna though:(
-
Driving's a whole lot easier than grinding rust and welding, if you play it right you can convince your significant other that it's like a little vacation ;)
-
I inquired about that one the other day and was told it was a ball front swing rear
-
one maybe coming up in French creek.

ya, i agree. the one kirin posted a link to doesn't look irs to me.
this one was posted in the craigslist finds thread and looks like an irs pan, plus comes with extra parts the op can sell to offset costs...

French creek would be right up my ally ... Let me know if anything comes available ... I'm off to dubs in the barn this Sunday so if anything if Vancouver area it would save a repeat trip
-
I should know by Wednesday, PM me your number.
-
found out its a 73 standard swing axel.
-
oh well .... ill still keep looking
-
A 73 still has a swing axle?, I thought that ended ~ 1970.
-
Standards in Canada had the swing axle until 73 and maybe the basic 110 in 75. Here is your proof. Right in my driveway. USA is a different story. Too much Samba time for you.

well that makes two of us

Maybe that 73 swing pan is not so bad if it is in really good shape. All the parts are available for conversion and you can reuse the short torsion bars and swing spring plates ( by cutting). If the AS trans is attached to the pan it is dual side cover 3.88 and it can easily be converted to IRS. If you did all the prep/assembly work, welding costs would not be that much. I thought about that with my 73 and the big issue was likely having to detach the body from the pan to weld in the trailing arm brackets. Not an issue with just the pan.
-
Ya not a bad plan ... Install costs are about 300 bucks on the island for welding in the brackets from my vw guru ... Definitely easier just to find a correct pan ... What's the pan worth 52 split ?
-
well it will need pans, but it maybe 0 dollars, less front and rear ends. have to wait till the owner is finished removing the rest.
-
I'm still looking for one ... I'm coming over to van for the show in a few weeks ... Maybe somebody got something around ?
