What are some of the lightest kg / lbs year bugs . I know they got heavy after 66 . Any really light years .

Here you go: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/type1.php every owners manual has weights listed in the last few pages, let us know what your research uncovers.

The general RoT is the older, the lighter.
Since there aren't too many pre-war prototypes or wartime cars available locally, look for 45-48s, they'll be the lightest us commoners will hope to find.
Every time there's a significant upgrade, things got heavier. A synchro 2-3-4 trans is heavier than a full crash (53-54) A full synchro (61) is heavier than the synchro 2-3-4. A 36hp engine is heavier than a 25hp. 40hp heavier still.
Brakes too. Oval drums are narrower than early 60s drums, so they're lighter.
Glass. Silas' 64 has smaller windows than Alan's 65, so his glass is lighter. But Silas' sunroof cancels any advantage.
What's the plan for this lightweight quest?

Go fast I guess . Just like to know if my 1776 pushes one year faster than another . My 1957 feels light . I do have a 70 pan so guess it heavier than original .

An IRS pan will weigh more due to the rear suspension. I've heard numbers thrown around at 40lbs extra.

Go fast I guess...
so are we going to see you racing the 1/4 at mission next year...? :)
