Title: Tranny Troubles
Post by: Black-Back on July 29, 2004, 01:34:30 PM
When I take a tight turn at slower speeds I hear a humming......no more like a low drone type of noise, I've got pennzoil 80/90 gear oil in it.

It was re-built 5 years ago by Lou in NV, its bone stock. I don't think leaving it sit for some time would cause anything to go wrong would it? Any ideas?

Mike

IRS or swing?

If a trans doesn't turn for 5 years it can rust inside.  The gear oil runs off leaving exposed bare steel.  It takes months for the surface to become vulnerable.

Swing axle. I figure the internals may be a little gummed up, after such a long time unused, however after driving for the first 2 weeks or so i did change the oil in it just to be sure, and there wasn't any foriegn crap in the oil.
Wen I had Lou rebuild it for me he didn't replace the axle bearings so that may be the problem.

Thanks,

Mike
